A clash over coffee
As they made their way to the Starbucks just down the road from the office, Gavin walking alongside Michael swinging his arms whereas Michael keeps his arms to his side and his hands in the pockets of his jeans but with a definite grin on his face. As they step through the doors a wave of warmth washes over them and the smell of freshly roasted coffee greets them, Michael sighs with satisfaction as he forgets the cold of winter in Austin and then he hears Gavin yelp “Micoo! Help!” and Michael sees that his scarf stuck around his neck, Michael chuckles and mutters to Gav “you're so dumb” whilst freeing the Brit from the pesky woollen offender.
They walk over to the counter and order their drinks, it's been a long morning for Michael and he leans against the wall whilst waiting for his order to be completed whilst Gavin starts to question Michael about the drink sizes and how they could so easily be in English, Gavin has a good point but Michaels tired so he responds with a casual “shut up”. Despite the frequency at which Gav has been told this by Michael it is obvious that Gavin is hurt by the scathing comment by the look of sadness that adorns his face. As they collect their drinks and start to make their way back to the office Michael thinks of some way he can cheer Gavin up, maybe he can take him out for a meal and let him stay the night, that should bring a smile to the plucky Brits face.
As Michael is thinking about what to do that night he doesn't realise his friend is on the floor covered in his coffee at first Michael thinks to call him stupid again then he sees the large man with coffee over his shirt shouting at Gav. Almost instinctively Michael throws himself between the two men to shield Gavin from the oncoming threat, Who yells viciously “Oh so the blind idiot has a boyfriend!?” Michaels features contort with anger as he replies angrily, his voice laced with anger “Back off, now.” The man is larger than Michael but is wearing a suit, and more than likely not very adept at fighting whereas Michael was raised in New Jersey and was no stranger to violence.
The suited transgressor swings at Michele, who easily ducks beneath the heavy blow and lands two punches underneath his chin, leaving a trail of blood from his mouth. As Michael goes in for another strike, the man manages to grab his shirt and punch him in the gut and Michael falls to his knees, Michael thinks he's about to be hit again when he hears a scream of anger from Gavin followed by a loud groan from the large man and looks up to find him on the floor with Gav standing over his unconscious body. Gavin looks up to Michael and gives him a grin and whispers “no one hurts my Micoo, you're my Boi!”, The feeling of pride and happiness that flows through Michael is instant and he knows that the British lad is certainly in for a treat when they get back to his apartment.
