Because that’s what heroes do!
The scientist yells a lot louder than he intends to, before he whips himself around to face Lily. He doesn’t mean to scare her - doesn’t mean to make her feel uncomfortable in his home - but he’s too riled up now to stop the words from spilling out. A massive river of burning lava, coming at her in all directions.
“The last time I went on a mission, you want to know what happened?” He looks at her - eyes a blazing inferno of anger - and walks closer to where she stands. “I got thrown into the side of a building. Pieces of it flew off, right into traffic - might I add - and innocent people got hurt. The chaos you see on the news? We’re partly responsible for that.” He gestures to the television, one arm waving like it’s covered with ants.
“So - yeah - maybe we help people, but that’s always going to come with a price. We do what we have to do, but we are not heroes.”
