@litttlebeast sent a thing
*blows a raspberry on Adora’s cheek*
Adora laughed, hugging her mother as if she couldn’t bear to let go. She missed this, the warmth of her mother, the love she could feel radiating off her angel like personage. She’d been spending more and more time with her Aunt Carrie as of late, her siblings often in school, or joining her while their parents consulted with the silly suit man- the lawyer. She wasn’t entirely sure what it was all about yet, but it didn’t matter. Right now, her mother was with her and happy, and what more could she want?
“I missed your smile Mama, we all did.” It was Tommy, sweet little Tommy who’d told her he’d heard Mama cry at night. The poor thing had been crying himself when he said it. She hated it when he cried, they all did. Junior evidently knew something was going on, but refused to share just what he thought of all this, and Isobel, Isobel seemed just as lost as she did. “Aunt Carrie helped us make cookies today! Pink and blue ones!”
"I’m so glad that you’re here!” It was no surprise that she was more than excited, her excited energy was on full blast throughout the whole day. To the point where patrons of the gallery could feel it, she was sure; nevertheless, though, she was excited about finally starting up the after hours lessons. To her it felt like a full exclusive, VIP tour of the gallery itself. Getting inside not only her mind as an artist, but inside the minds that had signed up and showed up, as well. There were a few canvases spread out throughout the floor, each with their own little pallets and different colored paints still within their cases. “Take a seat, we can get started in a few minutes. Was there anything specific that you wanted to make?”

This war that the humans and fae had decided to wage against each other was no business of hers. She didn’t particularly care about the motivations of either side, or who was in the right vs wrong. None of it mattered one bit to her -- whomever won, whomever lost, it would have no impact on her. She would continue on as ever, as would those under her. These new iron weapons the humans had invented were inconvenient, but nowhere near so dangerous or deadly as they were to the fae. And the poison of their weapons, designed to end the fae with a touch alone? It did little more than tickle those of her brood. Demons weren’t so easy to dispatch.
The only reason she was paying the raging battle any mind was...well. She’d not admit it to anyone, but the interest she had developed in the little queen of the moors had grown beyond simple curiosity. And Aurora had, unsurprisingly, found herself in the midst of the fray. Of course she had.
And so she watched.
She didn’t give a damn as causalities piled up on both sides -- other than a brief flicker of satisfaction as she watched those unfortunate humans thrown from the ramparts and abandoned to their fates.
She wore the shape of a dark fae, perched a safe distance from the action, where her current body was safely out of range of what might destroy it. Her preferred form had been left safely in the moors -- she had no intention of giving herself away for the sake of watching a pointless battle. No, she wasn’t about to risk recognition, past or future, for something so inane. But something had drawn her here, some feeling of necessity --- the likes of which were so terribly rare these days (a combination of age, power, and position meant she was rarely beholden to anyone or anything) ---- powerful enough that she had conceded to it.
And it was then that the familiar voice reached her, cutting through the din of battle.
Her focus snapped immediately to Aurora, defended by her godmother ----- until like so many others, she was struck, crumbling to ash. Aurora struck and snarled like a wounded animal ---- and satisfaction bloomed in her chest at the display of ferocity. Until her hear --- or what remained of it ---- sank, as she witnessed the fragile human queen thrown from the broken tower.
Something was happening atop the tower, but it wasn’t happening fast enough.
And despite all the power at her disposal, she wasn’t fast enough, either.
She dove from her perch, pouring every ounce of her power into this borrowed body, pushing it past its breaking point. It didn’t matter; as long as she wore this shape it would endure. Once she discarded it was another issue entirely, but that hardly mattered to her. The price would be well worth it, if only ---------
There was no if only.
The world seemed to slow to halt.
Aurora hit the ground with the sort of sound she’d normally find satisfying. Today, it sickened her, igniting a rage within her the likes of which she hasn’t felt for centuries.
She wants nothing more than to tear the mortal that had dared to touch what was hers apart with her bare hands, to make her suffer before tearing her very soul to shreds... but she restrained herself. She had to; time was limited. With a snarl to rival the most fearsome of beasts, she landed beside the woman, waving both an arm and wing, forcing anyone who thought to approach back with a wall of concussive force. Humans were thrown back, sent flying and falling; the fae stumbled back. She didn’t care. They didn’t matter.
Aurora was broken ------ but not yet lifeless as she had feared. There was still time.
“Aurora,” she forced out as she knelt down beside her, forcing her voice into a semblance of gentility, despite the rage seething beneath the surface. “Aurora, you need to listen to me ---- there isn’t much time.” As she spoke, her eyes shimmered and burned a bright golden, a bid to show Aurora that it’s her, that she’s worth listening to, despite the unfamiliar face and body she wore. “I can save you --- ” she started, reaching down to touch the woman’s face with her fingertips, just barely, almost as though she’s afraid the girl will crumble to dust beneath her touch. “----- a contract,” the demon continued, hoping Aurora would remember, would understand what’s being asking of her. “All you have to do is say it --- just ask.”
It was the only way ----- if she wanted to keep any part of what made Aurora so special in tact. Anything more than another nameless soul cast to the pit. “Say it.” She urged, jaw set and eyes hard.
He shot a glare at his twin sister who scurried off as quickly as her feet would carry her. The prince turned to his mother with a sheepish grin on his face. “She’s joking, I did not go cliff diving with the fey...” Yes he did.

“ you want me to be more...interactive with the humans. ” disbelief suspended in the air, she waited for her to say it was a joke, until she realized...she truly meant it. she should have said the citizens of ulsted instead, but she would have been lying when it was the entire human race that she needed to adapt to. it was a daunting & demanding request to ask her to befriend humans, not when she couldn’t trust them just yet. so many years being despised by them...& now, she was to pretend that nothing ever happened between them?
“ you’re asking quite a lot more from me than you think, beastie, ” she spoke endearingly, like a mother correcting a child. “ it will take time for me to adjust...though i can’t promise anything. ”

“What do you mean you never learned how?” Anna exclaimed, stopping her wild dance. “It’s not really something you learn... just something you kind of do. Here. Watch.”
Anna took a deep breath before continuing her dance from before. It was more swaying to the rhythm of the music playing in the ballroom than it was actual dancing, but it was fun, nonetheless.
“See?” She said to her new friend. “It’s pretty easy. Once you get into waltzing and all that, that’s the stuff you have to practice. But this? This is just doing what your body tells you to and having fun.”
