if only I had known how amazing my life was
if only I had known how amazing my life was
I don’t want to look back upon my life and think “wow what an amazing life I have truly lived . . . . if only I had actually been mindful of it at the time”!
I don’t want to live with an absent mind, a mind that looks back on my past so often that I forget to notice the ‘right now’. I don’t want to spend hours lost in worry, or sleepless nights stressing about what is to come, that I don’t see…

Live happier
Body image.
Currently, I feel indifferent towards myself. I feel like there are times when I have looked better and times where I have looked worse, so now I just feel average. According to my standards at least. I’ve never considered myself thin, and I don’t think I ever will be - especially according to society’s standards. Which is also a funny thing. Weight loss surgeries, diet pills, crazy insane workouts… That stuff is everywhere. I’ve heard some success stories - where said person loses all this weight and then their life completely turns around. But I feel like those stories, although they’re the popular, “inspiring” ones, are also rarities. Once you get the mentality that something about you needs to be changed, can you ever really be happy with yourself? I don’t know. It seems like a slippery slope.
I’m not saying working to eat better or live a healthier lifestyle is wrong or pointless. No, not at all. Trust me. Somehow I have become one of those people who actually enjoys going to the gym, blaring my music and dripping sweat from every part of my body, and quite honestly, I’m a lot happier because of it! But do I still judge myself whenever I look in the mirror? Always. I feel better in majority of my clothes, but is that what I think about when I’m looking in my closet? Nope. Instead, I see those dark wash jeans from five years ago that I can almost squeeze into again. My point is… I guess I’ll just be frank. I don’t think we’ll ever be happy with how we look. Something will always be wrong, we could always look better, we will tell ourselves there is more that we could be doing. But so what? Life is too short to care about that, isn’t it? I mean, really. Yes, it’s important to be healthy. Yes, it’s important to have self-confidence. Feeling good about yourself, feeling beautiful and proud of how you look is something that every human being should feel! But I highly doubt that those things are guaranteed once you lose 30 pounds or get down to a size 4, you know? The health of our mind and soul is just as, if not more important.
At this point in my life, there are few things more liberating than accepting that I’ll never be perfect, and finding happiness and comfort in that fact. Like I said, right now I’m indifferent. It’s summer. My workout schedule is completely off, I’m eating pizza whenever I can, and there’s a new flavor of ice cream in my freezer that continues to simply blow my mind. Maybe I’ve looked better, maybe I’ve felt better, but life goes on. Regardless, I’m happy.
There is so much more to life than us. One of the strongest beliefs I’ve come to hold over the past couple of years is that humanity is a blessing. Because of it we have family, friendships, relationships, love, pain, and empathy. It’s brought us music and art and literature and different ways of looking at the world, different ways of explaining things. It breaks my heart that something so unique and transcendent is often so belittled. We are just people, and yet we are all vast and fascinating.
Body image. It can be shaped by others and by the “pressures of society” that we’ve all experienced, but I think on the other hand, it’s still very much a personal battle. You decide how you feel about yourself and what you’re capable of. If you want try to lose weight, go for it! But do it for you. Do what makes you happy. Life is a gift, and the last thing I would want to do is look back and wish I had lived happier.
