Okay atiny please help out this newer atiny I need favorite live performances. I dont care if its a single song or a whole performance they've done. Ive been eating up their live performances lately and I know im barely scratching the surface! Won't say no to favorite mvs either!
i'm so obsessed with your ex
@cages-boxes-hunters-foxes's post just reminded me of one of my favorite speak now tour covers, mostly because there's just something about speak now era taylor singing I'm just a notch in your bed post, but you're just a line in a song
If opera/ballet/musical theatre has million fans, then I'm one of them. If opera/ballet/musical theatre has one fan, then I'm THAT ONE. If opera/ballet/musical theatre has no fans, that means I'm DEAD.
I may be a cringe theatre kid who grew into a cringe theatre adult but I will always have a deep personal love and affection for live performance and theatrical arts, and it does an incredible disservice to the thousands of people who dedicate their lives not just to acting and musical performance but also the stage crew, scenic designers, lighting designers, production team, etc for timothee fucking chalamet to say no one cares about opera anymore.
for an ACTOR to say that no one cares about opera is not just stupid and untrue, it's baffling. his job exists because of the groundwork opera and live theatre productions laid for the tv and film industry. it speaks to an uncomfortable amount of distance between him and the community of filmmakers/actors/artists involved in the work he does, and even more so to the gap between him as an actor and the people watching his movies. my great uncle put over 300k miles on his car because he drives cross country to see operas and has a collection of hundreds of vintage opera records and cassettes because it's the only thing he listens to. i saw my first opera at 9 at a local production and saved up for months to see 4 more at the state opera house. one of my favorite dates with my husband was to take him to see a livestreamed production of the magic flute at the local movie theatre. my stepdad got into opera in his 40s after seeing die fledermaus because his friend was in a local production.
and yeah, there's a lot of anti intellectualism and disdain for the humanities that has made viewership of opera and theatre go down. that doesn't mean no one CARES. that means the people who care can't afford to see it, that the theatres are inaccessible, that no one has the free time while working multiple jobs. we don't know how many of those people would be seeing obscure plays and listening to opera if it was accessible to them. all of this is to say, timothee chalamet please recognize the incredible amount of privilege you have as an actor and maybe use that to learn about opera so you can understand why PLENTY of people care about it, instead of being an asshole in your interviews.
