2/13/17 Liveblog It!

1:30pm: Sean won’t let us move the reading schedule back. >:(

1:35pm: We are learning about New Communalists and how they live.

1:43pm: Sean describes what it would be like to get a job in the business world during the post-Fordist business world.

1:46pm: My laptop has low battery. Don’t see any power outlets anywhere near me.

1:47pm: Sean pauses to take a sip of water.

1:51pm: Class changes to discussion over advertisements and the Whole Earth Catalog.

1:53pm: The group around me finishes talking about the question, and then we sit silently and awkwardly.

1:55pm: We learn about the geo-dome structures that people started living in. People outside class are talking loudly.

1:58pm: The Whole Earth Catalog has information within and it is used as a tool to learn skills.

2:00pm: Network Forum - Gathering place to share ideas, beliefs and information

A) 1:39- Recap on Greogory Batesons system theory based on the notion everything is a system with sub systems.

A) 2:09 - How did WEC effectively create a new community.

A) 2:10 - (digetzen) Mix groups and ideas together in a way that they could track.

A) 1:31- Video of Mario Savio on the operation of the machine was played. 

B) 1:35- Machine is viewed as the establishment trying to set the norm of free will. 

A) 1:38 - Apple ad was played (1984) as Apple destroying Big Brother.

B) 1:40 - One can argue Apple has become big brother itself today

A) 1:50 - (Creator) Systems theory: System of components that respond to things in deferent ways based on what happens.

B) 1:53 - this reminds me on chess against a computer based on what I do it will Change its strategy. 

A) 1:55 - 1960′s counter culture is viewed as a against new technology yet they may have stimulated it. 

A) 1:58 - Groups are formed. The new left was assigned.

B) 2:20 - New left has two forms that were political and one side that didn't think politics were valuable to be get their message across.

A) 2:00 - Group discussion of New left.

Understanding the Media

A) 1:35- (digitzen) Spoke about movie called lady killer. He was the talker and spoke of actors and plot. 

B) 1:37- I have never seen this movie but watching tom hanks murder old ladies must be entertaining. 

A) 1:42- (Creator) Media theorist was very popular in the 1960 and somewhat of a pop sensation. Hippies and highly regarded intellectuals comment on his writing. Made a comeback with new technology. The Internet itself was worthless enterprise. 

B) 1:45- Allot of fruitless obsession over un relevant  fictional characters along with wasted thought happened through the Internet.

A) 1:46- (Creator) A medium is something that carries something else such as our will. Now what do these things mean.

B) 1:48- We are so used to the technology we have created we no longer appreciate the create of the device instead we shift our focus to a certain aspect or use of it. 

A) 1:50- (Creator) Television has restructured our society, asking what is on tv will never get to that point.

B) 1:53- Television has made a much larger impact on us then we can really even keep track of or realize.

A) 2:00 - (Creator) The way people tend to think is to separate things from one another

B) 2:01 - One would think humans tend to just as equally pair things with one another. 

A) 2:06 - (Creator) To focus on a particular use of an AK ignores the fundamental ways this weapon has impacted the world as a whole.  

B) 2:09 - This weapon has done so much more then a single marginalized act or event.
