Lifeboat matches are a great addition to any outdoor fire kit especially in damp /windy conditions , I have a burn scar on my ankle that proves these take a lot to go out .
I was trimming up some 550 fire-cord from @livefiregear for kiridashi lanyards and I thought it would be interesting to see if the off cut red tinder cord from the inner core of the fire cord would add any burn time benefit to a match .
The off-cut tinder cord piece was simply wrapped around the bottom wooden end of the match but could be further sealed on with wax .
On ignition the lifeboat match did its thing fizzing and smoking away till it burst into flames . These are supposed to burn for around 12 seconds (in a separate test the ones I have burned for 22 seconds ) and then extinguish.
I would reckon that with the extra tinder cord added it definitely doubled if not tripled the burn time ,but as usual forgot to time it whilst photographing .
