One of my favorite subjects in the national parks: #photographers. At sunrise, sunset, mid-day, pre-dawn, in the middle of the night... the draw of capturing the magnificent stirs them from sleep easily. There is no want to bust the alarm clock, only want to set up a tripod and turn the beauty that their eyes uniquely see into something beautiful for all of us to look at. There must have been 200 of us here at Oxbow Bend at sunrise in the late fall, and each one of us walked away with our own take on a sliver of time. I love this place: Artist Point. Landscape artist Thomas Moran's paintings of it captured a scene so lovely that it helped to convince the U.S. congress that this sprawling space out west needed government protection... at this time very few out east had seen the area that is now Yellowstone National Park; from early descriptions, many didn't believe the fantastical nature of Yellowstone could be real. When the dawn sun clears the mountains at Mammoth Hot Springs near the #Montana/Wyoming border of Yellowstone, a strange revelation occurs -- whirring steam, colorful prismatic beams peek through the golden light, and other people are suddenly there with you...
