Summary: You meet someone from M’s past and you’re not certain how to feel about her.
Michael’s Version:
Catching sight of his tall form causes a relieved sigh to escape your lips. You don’t know what you would have done if the cafeteria had been a bust too. Not when you were so excited to tell him the news of what you had just discovered.
Making your way across polished tile, and around rounded wooden table, your smile grows that much more when you can make out the distinct patterns Michael’s elegant fingers were drumming against the surface of the table.
“Mic—”
Your greeting gets lodged in your throat at the realization that Michael wasn’t alone. In fact, the woman that was currently seated across from him could have walked off the cover of Vogue itself. Raven black strands fall in soft curls around her shoulders, highlighting the bronzed quality of her skin, and seem effortlessly put together. Hazel eyes, which were more green and gold than they were brown, framed by long, dark lashes that only emphasized the sharp quality of her cheekbones.
“MC?”
Pulling your attention from the mystery woman, and the feelings that were beginning to well within your chest, you focus on Michael’s warm expression, a gentle curiosity etched within the azure blue of his eyes.
“Michael,” you murmur, well aware of the woman’s keen gaze observing you. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt your lunch with—”
Trailing off, you silently hope that one of them will fill in the blanks, and aren’t disappointed when Michael immediately takes the cue to do so.
“Oh, I’m sorry.” He seems slightly embarrassed for not immediately introducing the two of you. “This is Dr. Liya Malik and Liya this is—”
“MC?” Liya guesses, an almost amused quality laden within the rich tone of her voice. Perfect white teeth briefly make an appearance as she offers you a warm grin. “I was wondering when I’d get to meet you.”
“How do you and Michael know one another?”
Liya seems even more amused by the question, but there seems to be no ill intent when it comes to said emotion. “I knew Michael back in college.” She turns her gaze to his. “We go way back.”
“Liya is my ex-girlfriend, MC.”
She laughs. “Well, there’s that too.”
