Who are you most excited for us to meet in terms of your characters? As you have a bunch of really cool side characters

Thank you! I’m truly honored that you think my side characters are cool— I can’t wait for you all to meet a bunch of them, but I do have a few I’m super excited about. (I’ll just do three though.)

Spencer Hayes, as you’ve already seen, will appear somewhat briefly within Chapter Two, and will have a bigger scene in Chapter Three, but I just can’t wait for you all to just interact with them; they’re an interesting character.

Liya Malik is another interesting character that I think M-Simps in particular will either enjoy interacting with or absolutely loathe doing so. As she’s one of M’s only exes, barring K, that their family actually likes and that M is still fairly close with. She’s a visiting doctor that will make future scenes so much more interesting.

Alexander Cross is an interesting man that I’m personally excited to explore. He’s an absolute asshat, but if you persevere when it comes to interacting with him— whenever you do come across him— you’ll be met with different individual than you thought previously possible.

BIOGRAPHY

Alexander, the smallest child, was overlooked in the massacre of the quiet forest-dwelling people in Oz. He never knew who killed his people, only that he was very suddenly very alone. He had been taught how to survive in the forest without help, and he spent most of his time in his non-human form. 

Then he met Dorothy. He was used to scaring passerby and picking up anything they dropped once they left, but neither she nor her companions were afraid. He was the one left cowering, shifting back into a human just to keep the fearless ones from killing him. The last thing he was expecting was to be invited along. To his suprise, they insisted he needed to go to the Emerald City to find answers about what had happened to his people.

It took some convincing because he had never left the forest before, had hardly any interactions with other people. Eventually, he was convinced and joined them. The Emerald City was terrifying and the Wizard was even worse.  The Wizard refused to disclose anything of his history and he immediately wanted to turn tail a flee.  The only thing he wanted more than retreat was to help Dorothy get home. So, against his better reasoning, Alexander went with Dorothy. Against all logic, they won. 

Still on the upswing of their victory, they were dumped into a brand new world, Alexander felt all of the same old fears. He can still shift, but he avoids it as much as possible. He doesn’t want people to know what he is, to treat him like a circus act.  More than anything, though, he longs to find Dorothy and the others, and he’ll probably never do that as a lion.

CONNECTIONS

Cheshire Cat: He’s more curious about the other than anything. He’s heard a bit about him and he wonders if the man really can change into a tiger or not.  Maybe one day he’ll get the guts to approach -- you know, human to human.

Dorothy Gale: Alexander has a soft spot for her. She’s one of the only ones that can convince him to be brave. He feels oddly protective of her, despite knowing she can easily take care of herself.

EMERALD CITY BOOKSTORE

If you expect something organized when you walk into a bookstore, you will be sorely disappointed by this one. Disorganization seems to be key to the employees running the place, and you may find Stephen King haphazardly shoved in with the Danielle Steele novels, or a book on how to kill a witch in with the cookbooks. There are certainly some diamonds in the rough though, so be certain to keep an eye out!
