Did some reading + setting up my bullet journal yesterday. I broke out a dip pen to do the whole “illuminated manuscript font”. It’s nice for headings, but it takes. So much. Time.

My goal for today is to finish reading a webnovel + finish setting up my bullet journal. Not all the aesthetic stuff, I’ll probably do the coloring on-and-off over the next… week? But I need to finish writing some resolutions (this one’s taking the most time, because there’s a lot of things I want to do, and I need to sort out what’s actually realistic for me to do), set up a calendar, set up a future log, a monthly log… you know, the stuff from here.

Well, here’s hoping it goes well.

Done some more Python notes. Also: I felt bad about wasting pencils, so some time ago, I got a pencil extender. It’s really seeing more use with the notes I’ve been taking this week, especially since the pencil I’ve been using is now very very tiny. I’m delighted every time I look at that tiny pencil.

Did LeetCode yesterday as well. When I first learned to code, I would run into easily avoidable issues by forgetting a bracket or semicolon somewhere. I’m now having vivid flashbacks as I run into a similar issue with Python and its required colons after conditionals. Hate it! Going to have to check that every time!

We’re coming up to the end of the week, brilliant. More Python notes, more character practice. Did not get as much done as I wanted, but I did learn some new things about keyword arguments and special parameters. Frankly, I didn't know you could make things positional/keyword only. The more you know!

More Python + LeetCode + interview stuff for today, I suppose...

Finally finished chapter 1 of System Design Interview: An Insider's Guide. I did not anticipate me taking that long to finish it. Taking notes slowed me down a lot, I’d go faster if I was just reading it – but if I was just reading it, how would I know for sure I’ve absorbed the info? Taking notes doesn’t necessarily ensure that, mind you, but I think it helps…

My goals today are more time-based, instead of “let me finish a chapter” (who knows how long that will take???)

Write answers to possible interview questions (2 hr)

Practice interview questions (1 hr)

System Design (1 hr)

SQL/relational (1 hr)

Might do more of the relational database stuff? I picked out a couple courses, but I don’t really remember which one I meant to start with, or if I really need to do both. Well, we’ll see. Let’s do our best today!

Hello there. I finished that Docker course, here are my notes for it. An okay course if you have no idea what Docker is and you want a really really rough overview of it, but not if you actually want to know how to use Docker, I think. Also sped my way through a LeetCode problem and started doing some system design study. Overall, I had a productive yesterday, which I suspect was fate preemptively warning me that today was going to be shit.

Today, I went on a hike, and then when I got home, I spent 4-5 hours in an empty-minded torpor. I could have used those 5 hours, man. It’s 4:30pm and I am not feeling great, both emotionally and physically. Emotionally? Disappointed. Physically? Really, really sluggish. I suspect it’s a combination of unexpected nap, heat, and uh, also dehydration. Gonna drink more water.

Gotta do damage control, now. I have a recruiter screen on Monday, so – all cylinders on that, I suppose. Some system design review and LeetCode if I have the time, but I suspect wrestling with my hatred about talking about myself is going to take all day. Terrible. Well. Let’s do our best.

I finished another module of my JavaScript course and then I decided that yeah, I totally knew enough JS to do a 90 min full stack assessment, it'll be fine.

Friends. Countrymen. Other assorted comrades.

The assessment kicked my ass. I cannot clearly express to you how much it kicked my ass. I spent 4 hours on that. I'm not even sure if I coded it right, because I was too tired to write test cases. At 12:00am, I was very much in the "fuck this, I'm going to bed" sort of mood.

I've been studying all week! I'm done! I'm going to get away from studying and job applications for today!

Finished my Node.js course, now I'm working on the JavaScript course. I've got one module down, annnd I'd say I'm 45% of the way through the other one. There are five modules total, so I'm going to see how far I can get through all of this today.
