Seeing as both @kc-and-co and I independently from each other headcanon October 3rd to be Orion's birthday... it's the universe's will to celebrate accordingly.
The masterlist for a new Lizion series will be dropping tonight in celebration (Rockstar, gtfi again) but until then, have one of my favourite Lizion moodboards I have ever done 💛💛
This story was written as a gift for the wonderful @lifeofkaze before I had a side-blog for my stories. Moving it here for all to enjoy.
You took a deep breath and dropped your trunk at the foot of your bed as you settled in for the first day of your last year at Hogwarts. The train ride was exhausting, and the prospect of a year at school without Orion was weighing on your mind.
You didn’t take the time to unpack your books or clothes. The only essential item your retrieved from your trunk was his picture. He looked so good in his new black and white robes. You were so proud of his new adventure as a rookie Chaser for The Montrose Magpies. You placed the gold frame on your nightstand and settled in for a nap.
You were startled by a crinkling sound when your head landed on your pillow. There, under your neck, you found a stack of six small envelopes, each with a red seal. As you undid the string that held the stack together, you saw the same small and familiar handwriting on each of the letters. A smile exploded across your face as you read the outside of each package.
Open on September 1, 1991
Open on Gameday – Ravenclaw
Open When You Miss Me
Open on Gameday – Gryffindor
Open before Christmas Break
Open on Gameday – Slytherin
Despite the fact the two of you would spend the year apart, Orion had taken care to make sure his words were with you through every major moment in your last year of school. You instantly reached for the envelope labeled “Open When You Miss Me” and pried off the sealing wax.
A photograph slipped out as you unfolded the parchment. It wasn’t entirely inappropriate, but not one you would be quick to display in the golden picture frame on your night stand. A blush rushed into your cheeks as you studied the photograph. The two of you were locked in a steamy kiss on the beach during your summer travels. Any other time, you would have been happy to keep your focus on the memories you made over the summer but couldn’t wait to read his message.
Merlin’s Beard, My dearest Chaser!
I knew you would start with this one. I miss you already, too. How about starting with the envelope with today’s date? You only have four more letters after today. I have taken care to enchant each letter so that it cannot be opened before it is time.
Receive each letter with the patience of a flobberworm, and all will be well.
All my Patience, Your dearest Captain
He knew you too well. You had been caught. Giggling, you reached for today’s letter, specifically written for the start of a brand-new year.
My Chaser Captain,
Sending all my love and good vibes to you as you start your adventure. Our team, your team, could not ask for a better leader. I’d love nothing more than to be there to see you become the captain I always knew you could be. I used to walk into our lessons together feeling like the teacher, and left feeling like the student. I will carry your wisdom close with me as I play each game in Montrose. I have also included bits of wisdom for each of yours. Take as much as you need from my letters; but never let my words outweigh your remarkable instinct. Balance.
All My Love, Your Captain Chaser
It was a rainy November morning when you woke with nervous excitement building in your chest. Of course, you were excited to play your first game as captain, but with that came the chance to open your next letter from Orion. Before you even got out of bed, you reached into the drawer of your night stand and found the envelope marked, “Open on Gameday – Ravenclaw”
My dearest Chaser,
You have worked so hard to prepare the team for this moment. I am bursting with pride for you, even as you read this. In my last letter, I praised your unmatched instinct. I believe in you with everything in me. However, we both know the Ravenclaw way. Their captain will not play on instinct this afternoon. While I am certain she has a well-planned strategy, I can offer you this: Stare her down, and then shift your focus to the new commentator. Distraction isn’t a kind strategy, “but I’d say the odds of success are 99.7%”.
Play today’s match with the Loyalty of a Kneazle, and all will be well.
All my Loyalty, Your dearest Captain.
You woke up with a fire raging in your chest. It was game day and taming Gryffindor was the second most important thing on your list for the day. You had kept his letter on your nightstand, with the seal halfway removed. Reading his wise and loving words before gameday was your favorite new tradition.
My dearest Chaser,
Congratulations on your win against Ravenclaw! You prevailed over a power-duo, enjoy the young and inexperienced beaters Gryffindor has to offer. This team is known for speed. You, my darling girl, are known for your fire.
Play today’s match with the Fire of a Fire Crab, and all will be well.
All my Fire, Your dearest Captain
As you packed your things for the holiday break, you reached into your nightstand to pack Orion’s remaining letters. You refused to let them out of your sight for two weeks while you were away. You opened the letter marked for the occasion and found it was heavier than the rest of the envelopes. A delicate gold charm bracelet slipped out. A topaz, a small silver Kneazle, a pearl flobberworm, and a rose gold Fire Crab were attached.
Merry Christmas Chaser,
I’ll see you for the holiday soon. Plenty more gifts and all my affection to follow.
-Your Loving Captain
The night before your last game of the season, you turned the unopened letter over in your hands. You tugged at the wax seal to no avail. His enchantment spell on each letter was firm. There was no chance of getting into it until gameday. You glanced at the clock next to his picture on your nightstand. It was an hour until midnight, maybe then the letter would be able to be opened. You held the letter close and closed your eyes, imagining what loving words of wisdom Orion would impart for your final game as Hufflepuff’s captain. The letter’s contents would remain a secret until morning, as you fell asleep just before the wax seal slipped open at midnight.
My dearest Hufflepuff Captain,
Yes, Captain. My dearest, UNDEFEATED CAPTAIN. I have no wisdom left to impart on your game against Slytherin this afternoon. I wrote this before your season began, and how did I know you would be undefeated? My unwavering faith in you. You’ve proven yourself time and time again. If you get a moment to take your eyes off the quaffle, look up at the commentary box and wave to me. I’ll be next to the chatty blond. I hope my presence in the stands brings you peace, balance, fire, patience, and sense of loyalty.
Play today’s match with the Tenacity of a Niffler, and all will be well.
Your dearest Magpie Chaser
The crowd went wild as you celebrated your undefeated season. There was no party more important than the one your closest friends were having in the commentary box. You jumped into Orion’s arms. Letting him go felt impossible in the moment. When he set you back on your feet, you wiped a tear from your eye and noticed a bright black glint shining off your bracelet in the sun.
Your Orion had clipped a new onyx Niffler holding a small gold coin to your bracelet. Your collection, your undefeated season, and your time at Hogwarts, your year apart from the love of your life were finally complete.
Omg, I love the Swiftie game maybe a little too much, ngl 👀 You are amazing!
Seeing as I'm the most terrible person at choosing and you said multiple requests were fine....
How about Seliot, Lizion, and Dylanielle? 💛💛💛
(If you only want to do one, that's so fine!)
eeeeeeeek let’s talk some taylor!!!!!!!!!!
seliot - “The Way I Loved You” (Fearless) eliot belongs to the marvelous @kc-and-oc
“He is sensible and so incredible /And all my single friends are jealous” this is pretty straightforward: eliot is a very sensible ravenclaw, and there’s a reason selene is into him in the first place. and i too would be jealous of anyone dating adam brody’s face.
“He opens up my door and I get into his car / And he says you look beautiful tonight / And I feel perfectly fine” eliot is quite the courteous little gentlemen when the two are getting along, and i feel like this line fits with that one wildflower prompt u did for these guys!
“But I miss screaming and fighting and kissing in the rain / And it's 2AM and I'm cursing your name / You're so in love that you act insane / And that's the way I loved you” if i could only use one word to describe seliot, i’d say passionate. and that includes their breakups and heartache as well as their good times. the chorus of this song really captures that passion that i associate so strongly with seliot.
“Breaking down and coming undone / It's a roller coaster kind of rush / And I never knew I could feel that much / And that's the way I loved you” rollercoaster is one way to put it, and a really perfect, really fitting way to put it i think. i especially love the “i never knew i could feel that much” because hey, it’s their first love, and it’s very intense!
there’s another verse about some more positive and cute relationship things, and then the chorus repeats. then we get the bridge: “He can't see the smile I'm faking / And my heart's not breaking / 'Cause I'm not feeling anything at all / And you were wild and crazy / Just so frustrating / Intoxicating, complicated” seliot is many things, but it’s never boring, and there’s never any question how real the feelings are behind it. this song compares a seemingly perfect relationship to a wild and passionate one, claiming that those feelings just weren’t there in the perfect one, and that it’s through all of the crazy fights and breakups that they know how strongly they feel for each other.
hehe if u need some good bitter breakup songs for these two, i am, once again, dropping this album here :)
lizion - “Wonderland” (1989 Deluxe Edition)
“Flashing lights and we / Took a wrong turn and we / Fell down a rabbit hole” all right so this would be that part in aob where lizzie is realizing her feelings for orion, and she’s metaphorically falling into this rabbit hole because of all of the drama.
“You held on tight to me/ 'Cause nothing's as it seems / And spinning out of control” lizzie’s whole world is falling apart- she’s fighting with rowan, charlie, and sometimes skye while going through this big emotional crisis. but, throughout it all, she has orion to hold onto.
“Didn't they tell us don't rush into things? / Didn't you flash your green eyes at me? / Haven't you heard what becomes of curious minds? / Ooh, didn't it all seem new and exciting? / I felt your arms twistin' around me / I should have slept with one eye open at night” the astronomy tower scene! lizzie gets caught up in her feelings and alcohol and gets a little too rash, which has disasterous consequences.
“We found Wonderland / You and I got lost in it / And we pretended it could last forever (Eh, eh) / We found Wonderland / You and I got lost in it / And life was never worse but never better (Eh, eh)” orion is such a wonderlandiful guy, isn’t he? the vibe that lizion gives off to me is that they seem like they can be in their own little absolutely adorable world together (especially in rockstar au!) “life was never worse but never better” i’m not sure what to add it just feels like it fits, you know?
“But there were strangers watching / And whispers turned to talking / And talking turned to screams” frigging rumors. but, another important point of their relationship and obstacles in aob!
“I reached for you, but you were gone / I knew I had to go back home” that point when lizzie chooses rowan over orion
“And in the end, in Wonderland / We both went mad” well, they didn’t actually, but there was a point when i was worried they were gonna go mad from all that stress!
side note - wildest dreams totally gives me rockstar! lizion vibes, even though orion doesn’t really fit the bad boy narrative the song has :)
dylanielle - “You Are In Love” (1989 Deluxe Edition)
“One look, dark room / Meant just for you” c’mon now, these two are totally the make-eye-contact-across-the-classroom-and-smile type.
“Buttons on a coat, lighthearted joke / No proof, not much, but you saw enough” one of the most important parts of this beautiful friends-to-lovers ship is that they show their love through little interactions (*cough* shadow puppets *cough*), rather than reallly grand romantic gestures. it’s not huge proof, but it’s enough to know theyre in love.
“Small talk, he drives / Coffee at midnight / The light reflects the chain on your neck / He says, "Look up" / And your shoulders brush / No proof, one touch, but you felt enough” even when they had one scene that they featured in that zadie and reva story, it was very clear that they were a couple from their casual and normal activities, like studying together, or getting coffee at midnight. and they’re totally the type to accidentally brush shoulders!
“You can hear it in the silence (Silence), silence (Silence), you / You can feel it on the way home (Way home), way home (Way home), you / You can see it with the lights out (Lights out), lights out (Lights out) / You are in love, true love / You are in love” all these two have to do is walk next to each other, and you can just tell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
then we get some more little things lyrics that totally fits them, and we get this gem: “And for once, you let go / Of your fears and your ghosts / One step, not much, but it said enough” they both have the same ghost: this looming quidditch legacy draping over both of their heads! it’s through each other that they can help themselves in that regard.
“One night, he wakes / Strange look on his face / Pauses, then says "You're my best friend" / And you knew what it was, he is in love” it… it just sounds exactly like them! are we sure this song is older than this ship? it just fits too well!
“And you understand now / Why they lost their minds and fought the wars / And why I've spent my whole life trying to put it into words” no specific comment, just ugh these lyrics r so good!
send me a character or relationship and i’ll break down a t swift song i think suits them!
"I did hear you the first time, Chaser, I just can't help but wonder what happened with the big bowl of cherries I put in the fridge?"
"I...may or may not have eaten them all already, but there's something else I could offer you for dessert if you like?"
"As much as I appreciate the offer, my answer is no, I do not fashion *this* kind of dessert tonight; without consequences, there can be no learning - your turn with coming up with something else."
Seeing as there's actually a completed Lizion WIP of mine that you don't yet know, have a little sneak peek of it:
I recognise the woman by his side immediately. She is wearing a cherry red dress beneath a heavy fur coat that gets taken from her shoulders. I don’t doubt the dress is as expensive as sin herself; the fabric shimmers in the light as she moves with a self-confidence that makes her look like she owns the world, and judging by the looks she’s receiving from both the man whose arm her hand is resting upon and the other men in the room, she might as well. It doesn’t take more than the slightest of smiles from her red lips, and the light from the chandelier isn’t as bright anymore, and the gemstones on the women surrounding her look dull. Nothing but a twitch of her lips, and suddenly it’s her who lights up the room.
David Willows (in mention) belongs to @that-scouse-wizard
Orion Apparated into the living room of his house on the beach just outside Montrose with a sharp crack that sounded through the empty cottage.
He set the bag with his Quidditch gear he’d brought from their morning practise down on the floor and tilted his head, listening for a moment. When he heard another crack out from the garden, he frowned and opened the back door; he was surprised to see Lizzie emerging from between two jasmine bushes.
“How did you get over there?” he asked her with raised eyebrows, but his girlfriend only muttered something indiscernible and pushed past him into the house.
Once inside, Lizzie lost no time to exchange the black and white Montrose Magpies jersey she was still wearing for a woolly jumper, wrapping one of the blankets lying on the sofa in front of the fireplace around her shoulders on top, but it didn’t help; she was still feeling cold to the bone.
She shivered when Orion stood behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist.
“You’re off today, Chaser,” he said softly and pressed a kiss onto her neck. “There’s no focus in anything you do. What is it that’s tugging at your centre?”
“Nothing is tugging at my centre,” Lizzie said impatiently and wiggled herself out of his arms. She was feeling hot and cold at the same time, and her head was pounding like crazy; she had no mind for Orion’s convoluted talk right now.
“If you were as balanced as you’re claiming to be, practise wouldn’t have been as awful as it was, I’m afraid,” Orion pointed out and shouldered both their bags, refusing to hand Lizzie hers when she wanted to carry it herself.
“It’s been a long time since you got almost knocked off your broom.”
“I wouldn’t have been almost knocked off if you hadn’t rammed me,” Lizzie stated and sniffed indignantly.
“I didn’t ram you, you bumped into me. Because you lost your balance,” Orion added with a smirk and ducked when Lizzie threw her jersey after him.
She missed him by a whole foot and groaned; maybe Orion had a point after all.
“My head hurts,” she admitted miserably, “and my eyes, too. Everything hurts, actually, and I’m cold and tired.”
She wrapped her arms around her torso and stood closer to the fireplace after Orion had gotten a fire started with a flick of his wand. The heat was warming her clammy skin and Lizzie felt the cramped muscles in her body relax a little.
“It seems your imbalance lies not in your mind, but in your body,” Orion hummed and stood next to her. “If you ask me, you’re getting sick.”
Lizzie wrinkled her nose. “I’m not.”
“Denying it doesn’t make it less true, you know?” Orion laughed quietly. “Maybe it wasn’t a good idea to stay on the beach and watch the stars last weekend, after all. Although the night sky was magnificent,” he added with a gleam in his eyes.
Laughing, Lizzie nudged him playfully.
“As if you saw that much of the night sky,” she giggled. “As far as I’m concerned, staying out on the beach was a very good idea.”
“And besides,” Lizzie continued more seriously, “I can’t be sick. I have no time to be sick. The match against the Wimbourne Wasps is in three days, do you really think I’m going to miss out on showing David the ropes?”
She snorted. “Absolutely not.”
Lizzie turned and bent down to untie the laces of her Quidditch boots, but as soon as she tipped her head forwards the room started spinning around her; holding on to Orion was all she could do to not fall over.
When she slowly straightened up again, there were stars dancing in front of her eyes and she could hear her blood rushing in her ears.
“Are you okay?” Orion asked worriedly as he helped her stand.
Lizzie nodded, her head swimming from the effort; she was grateful she could lean against his chest.
“I’m perfect, you don’t need to make a fuss -”
The rest of her sentence was cut short when Lizzie had to sneeze so forcefully her ponytail flipped forward.
“That’s enough,” Orion said firmly. “The hardest step is always the next, and if you want to fly when you can’t even stand you’re skipping more than only the next one.”
He took her by the shoulders, turned her around and marched her to the bedroom, not listening to her vehement protest.
Lizzie didn’t want to admit it, but lying down and letting herself sink into the soft embrace of her pillow felt heavenly.
Orion sat beside her, gently running his hand over her hair. When his fingers brushed her skin, he paused and frowned.
He leaned forward and kissed Lizzie’s forehead; when he drew back, his eyes were reproachful.
“You’ve got a fever,” he said. “Playing with a fever is no joke, Liz. You’re being reckless.”
“No, I’m not,” Lizzie mumbled, too comfortable snuggled into her duvet to feel bad about risking her health, “I’m in bed, am I not?”
Orion’s eyes softened and he chuckled. “Point for you, Chaser. I’m going to tell the coach you’re out for today when I get back.”
He made a move to get up but Lizzie caught him by his sleeve.
“Can you stay with me? Just for a little while.”
“You’re impossible,” Orion sighed, but climbed into bed next to her anyway.
Lizzie snuggled up against his chest and listened to the steady beat of Orion’s heart.
She was almost asleep when she felt him press another light kiss to her burning forehead, and a moment later to her lips.
“What are you doing?” she mumbled against his mouth, but not bothering to break the kiss either. “You’re going to get sick, too. Two Chasers out cold would be a disaster for the match.”
“It would be very unfortunate,” Orion agreed and kissed her again. “But I don’t care. Kissing you is worth it. It’s always worth it.”
