Greetings, hello, and welcome! You've made it to the little page of Kaze, a 30-something-year-old, she/her writer, who is mainly active in the HP fandom and its many spawns, and absolutely doesn't like to talk about herself in 3rd-person. No idea what gave you this notion at all.

The boulder pushing punishment is iconic. But I think more people should know the reason Sisyphus was punished to begin with, which was for cheating death, twice.

The first time he cheated death, Sisyphus had just angered Zeus by revealing the location of the Asopid Aegina whom Zeus abducted. Which is super valid, fuck Zeus.

Sisyphus knew that Zeus would send the god of death Thanatos after him, so he prepared a trap and trapped Thanatos in the chains meant for him.

After that, nothing on Earth was able to die so long as Thanatos was in chains. Which meant no animals could be sacrificed to the gods. This angered the gods, who made Sisyphus' life so miserable with pain and illness that he would beg for death. And so he released Thanatos.

But then came the second time Sisyphus cheated death. As he was dying, he asked his wife to dump his naked corpse in the middle of the public square. Denied a proper burial, his soul ended up on the far side of the river Styx, unable to cross.

He complained to Hades and Persephone about how his wife disrespected him, and begged them to let him return briefly to the world of the living to scold her and make her bury him properly. They agreed, and Sisyphus returned to life. He then embraced his wife, and refused to return to the Underworld.

It's only when he finally died of old age that he was sent to Tartarus and punished with the boulder.

I don't remember where I've seen it, but I like the interpretation that Sisyphus doesn't have to push the boulder. He can choose to stay in Tartarus and rest. But he was promised that if he managed to push the boulder to the top of the mountain, he'll ascend to Elysium.

And Sisyphus, in his stubbornness and cleverness, refuses to give up on a challenge.

One must indeed imagine Sisyphus happy, planning and scheming about how he'll cheat the gods next.

Resisting the urge to Um Actually this dragon novel because it has the dragon eggs be like three or four feet wide but there is simply a limit to how large hard-shelled terrestrial eggs can be. No matter how large the animal is, the embryo needs oxygen, and oxygen needs surface area. The larger an object is, the lower its surface area relative to volume, and the less oxygen the embryo can receive. We think of large animals as having porportionately large young because mammalian pregnancy has the unique benefit of allowing for the size of the young to scale with the adult because their oxygen is provided directly through the placenta, and almost all the megafauna remaining on Earth are mammals. But this is not the case for species which lay eggs! For fuck's sake even the sauropods hatched out of eggs barely larger than basketballs! Your hatchling dragon would be impressively enormous if it were the size of a house cat. Stop trying to make me believe that this (ROUND!) dragon egg somehow supplied enough oxygen to develop an infant the size of a large dog or even bigger. If it were possible the dinosaurs woulda been doing it!!!!

"Ice cream, whenever he wishes," Bradford promised. 

Trip stopped short, glancing back at Isaac Gerard's office perched high above the factory floor. "I'll have Mr. Gerard draw something up."

2 a character whose POV you’re currently exploring

Bradford at 80. His memory is failing him, causing his lies from his younger years to unravel. His children cannot tell when he is lying, senile, or lucid. Hiring your six year old grandson as a business consultant sounds like madness, but when that consultant is Trip, is it? Trip is the only one benefitting from this descent into madness and grief. Ivy suffers the most… for a little while. 

3 how you feel about your current WIP

How do I feel about:

Brad and Gilles in Paris? Oliver in Italy? Eliot’s betrayal? Valentina’s second chance at life? Ivy’s cottagecore dreaminess? The justice I dole out to the worst villain in the series? Exploring the manor? 

2 and 4 are my favorite. 

I’ll be a little sad to have to leave WIP2 when I get responses from WIP1’s test reads.

Thankfully, every good idea I have is in a draft. 

8 if you had to write a sequel to a fic, you’d write one for…

I’d like to let the ladies from WIP3 have their own sequel. Mrs. Bancroft, Lady Duffy, Wisteria, Sid, and Aurelia are wonderfully weird.

11 a WIP you’d like to finish someday

Suite 27 is the previously unnamed Hotel Story I've been playing with for years. Whatever happens, I will get Collin Madruzzo’s story told. 

19 the most interesting topic you’ve researched for a fic

Herbs in medicine and witchcraft. The ancient knowledge that was criminalized, vilified, and sold back to the masses by prescription. 

24 how do you recharge when you’re not feeling creative?

Ask games are a good start. Coffee, a long shower, meditation, a little herbal magic of my own, a good playlist, travel, reading other people’s books, and a revisit to Untimely. 

26 are you able to write with other people around?

Only if said people are complete strangers or other writers. 

27 your favorite part of the writing process

When things are flowing, I’m completely immersed in the scene, and nothing else exists. I don’t experience that often anymore.

28 your least favorite part of the writing process

Feeling guilty for how much time and energy I want to put into this series. I just want to WALDEN myself into a single occupancy cabin for a year and get it done.

29 how easy is it for you to come up with titles?

The TPT titles were found/borrowed. I hated Untimely’s original title, and I was stuck with it for like 10 years. I was glad when Suite 27 finally came to me. I may never need to title a story again, and I am happy with that.

2) A character POV you‘re currently exploring.

I‘m not exactly writing from her POV but a woman called Emily has entered the Kings and Thieves-stage for the first time. She supposed to be in the Icarus manuscript earlier than the last bits but was added during the writing process so I‘ll have to go back and insert her parts. She is a journalist and the closest thing Ev ever had to a committed relationship… or so she thinks, at least.

4) A story idea you haven‘t written yet.

Only one?! There are so many. Let‘s pick the Silver WIP, the big fantasy thingy for which I have corner stones and a rough lore and character drafts where the main character doesn’t want to be the main character and the side characters are just way too cool to be that but nothing really works. Since I’m not really reading fantasy of that kind at all anymore, I’m not sure if this massive thing will ever see the light of day.

Uhm, whatever the program I’m using likes? It has to look orderly and compact and then I’m fine. Not a big fan of typewriter style fonts, though.

Music and lyrics, mainly.

Part of my editing process is rewriting, so I don’t have much of the ‘original’ stuff left. I don’t think I ever cut out entire scenes or paragraphs without them being changed into something within the final manuscript, though.

19) The most interesting topic you’ve researched for a project.

Deepest rabbit hole? Inner workings of the music industry, recordings and touring.

Most scary shit to type into my search bar without feeling like a criminal? Details of cocaine abuse, addiction and where to buy that shit.

Weirdest field of research? Palm reading, tarot cards and crystals.

22) Do yo ever worry about public reaction to what you’re writing? How do you get past that?

Luckily, no one I know irl is interested enough in my strange little hobby for that to be a problem. As for the rest, pen name.

24) How do you recharge when you’re not feeling creative?

I step away entirely. Learning to let myself let go for an unspecified amount of time was a learning curve (still is, sometimes) but it’s not only creative output that drains the cup for me, so it takes a lot of grace with myself to let it refill again. We’re working on it.

The Van der Snyte Girls: Sid, Tallulah, and Robin (I stan the VDS matriarchy) can play piano. It is actually a sad story (yes, it is VERY canon) If Sid's mother had known how to play piano, she might not have had such a rough time in her early adulthood. She insisted on a well-rounded education for the women in her family.

Because Brady grew up under Sid's care, he can dabble, but he isn't very good. He believes in the arts, but he expresses himself in other ways.

I mean, that is not really WHY I gave Brady a piano... but...

it's okay for your favorite fictional character to be a jerk, in canon or in fanfics, even if they're not a villain or an antagonist. real people can be jerks — good people can be jerks sometimes, that doesn't mean they are no longer good people, it means they are human beings with feelings and complexities.

let your character be a jerk when faced with a challenging situation, when the circumstance warrants them to be a jerk. let them lash out, be angry, make mistakes, do things they end up regretting. it's not bad writing, it's being authentic.

An old woman will arrive at the station at 2:47 AM, she will not have enough money to pay the fare, let her in anyway. She will then board an unscheduled train at 3:00 AM. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TURN HER AWAY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

It was either a joke or some train executive's wife, that's what I thought when my manager gave me those specific instructions.

He proceeded to stress them again three more times during orientation. No biggie, I figured, and set a reminder on my phone for 2:45 just to be safe. Other than that I was just shown how to work the ticketing machine and where to find the spare D Batteries for the ancient flashlight they provided me with.

At 11:50 PM the last scheduled train departed. By 00:20 AM all the disembarked passengers had milled off. There was only one other person at the platform, a young homeless man missing a leg. Probably a veteran of one war or the other, there had been so many recently. He was sleeping on one of the benches. My manager had said I was to politely urge any passengers remaining after midnight to leave. He did not seem like a passenger so I let him sleep. It is how I was raised.

At 2:45 AM my alarm went off. I put aside my book, made sure my booth was tidy in case the executive's wife or mother or whoever would come was going to inspect it.

At 2:47 AM she was there.

I did not hear a car, nor approaching footsteps. The Babusia was simply there when she had not been before. A heavily wrinkled old woman, with a crooked nose and a scarf tied around her brittle-looking grey hair. A knobbly wooden walking stick was held by an equally knobbly left hand. She did not seem like the mother of some rich rail tycoon. She reminded me of my grandmother.

But I had never met my grandmother.

"One ticket, please." she requested in a firm voice, placing a small handful of coins on the counter without looking up at me. Most of the coins were obsolete Kopeks, and even counting those it was not enough for half a ticket, but as I was told before I nodded my head and accepted her money. "Of course. "

It suddenly occured to me that I was not told how to print a ticket for this unscheduled train. Before I could remark about it, I saw that the ticket was already at the mouth of the machine. It was green, with red lettering, something the black-and-white printer should not have made. But yet it did. The printing seemed in cyrillic of some sort, but I could not read it.

"Your ticket." I presented, and without thinking added "Do you require assistance to climb the platform stairs, grandmother?" It is how I was raised.

"Yes. Assist me." she replied curtly, beginning to shuffle slowly through the dark station towards the platform. I locked up my booth, and caught up with her just before the stairs. I switched on my heavy flashlight with my right hand, and offered the woman my right to brace herself. Her grip was strong. She probably would have had no issue climbing by herself, but assisting a grandmother was always the right thing to do, even when her sharp fingernails dug painfully into my palm.

We arrived at the platform. The clock hanging from the ceiling read 2:56. She released my hand and took a few steps, then looked at the sleeping man on the bench. "A friend of yours?" she asked. I thought about lying; if she was truly an executive's family, perhaps hosting a friend would be a lighter offense than turning a blind eye?

"No, grandmother." I responded truthfully. "He is not breaking the rules, so I left him alone." It is how I was raised.

The woman hummed. She seemed taller than before. Taller than me. The night draped her shoulders like a shaul and my torch did not reach it. Her gray hair shone like woven starlight, and her eyes were the night sky. I could not look away.

"You are a well-mannered girl." she said, her voice echoing in my ears like silence. She placed something small and hard in my hand.

A train arrived. It had only one car. I think it had a steam engine. It may have walked on chicken legs. I could not look at it.

The Grandmother boarded her train without another word. I was alone in a perfectly dull train station. Almost. The homeless woman behind me mumbled and stretched her legs in her sleep.

In my hand was a wrapped piece of hard candy.
