I saw your post about the makeup thing and I wanted to ask about what you use for skin makeup. I've never used foundation because I love my freckles and don't want to cover them up, and I've never tried anything else like tinted moisturizer because I don't have the budget for the trial-and-error thing. So are you happy with how bb cream works? And is there anything else you use?
I never understood why anyone wanted to cover up freckles either. It usually ends up looking terribly fake, and they’re cute as hell, so why cover them anyway? Looking back I actually use a lot of products for my skin makeup, some budget friendly, some not. Here’s the breakdown of what I use:
Moisturizer: What’s most important when you’re wearing minimal coverage makeup in my opinion is to prep your skin. Moisturizer and primer are what make your skin as smooth and flawless as possible before you even put any makeup on. First Aid Ultra Repair is my favorite, but not budget friendly. I only get this if it’s as samples or on sale. Otherwise any face moisturizer will work just as well. I end up using whatever I get as samples or in beauty bag type things.
Primer: I’m not too picky about this, I use pretty much whatever’s on sale. There are very few that I’ve tried and actually disliked. Right now it’s Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore eraser. It’s typicall $5-$7 dollars, and I see it on sale all the time for buy one get one or buy one get one half off.
BB Cream: Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue. I’ve heard this categorized as a BB cream, a CC cream, a tinted moisturizer, and Bare Minerals describes it as all three. Whatever it is, this is the one thing I generally won’t compromise on. It’s very light coverage, but it excellent at evening out skin tone while looking natural. Dab it on, brush it out, slight blending with a beauty blender and it looks like your skin is perfected, but not like you’re wearing anything. A little costly at $29, but worth it.
Lose powder: Just a slight dusting to set things. Again, I use whatever brand is on sale. Be careful to use ones that are listed as translucent and match your undertones. A lot run yellow and if you have pink undertones like me, that can be bad.
Highlight part one: Wet n Wild Reserve Your Cabana. Walgreens actually has this on sale for $2.99 right now, but the full price is only $3.99 so either way won’t break the bank. Be warned if you order it online it WILL arrive broken and smashed. Easily fixed by repressing it, but annoying. I use this as a very subtle highlight for under my eyes, up cheek bones, the bridge of my nose and the center of my forehead.
Blush: So I’ve recently developed a love affair for all things Becca. Her Beach Tint Shimmer Soufflés are the most natural looking blushes I’ve ever tried. It’s a cream, so there’s a learning curve, but these are forgiving and you can make it as subtle or dramatic as you like. Also very long lasting. They also blend out very well if you accidentally over do it. I have Fig/Opal which has been my daily go to and I just got Guava/Moonstone yesterday.
Highlighter part 2: Champagne Pop by Becca x Jaclyn Hill. This has had a lot of hype lately and for good reason. It’s beautiful, it’s natural looking, it blends like a dream and it makes you look like a goddess. Pricey, but a little goes a long way.
It always amazes me how much can go in to “natural” looking makeup. But the result is pretty good I think, just enough to look perfected but not overly made up. So the end result is something like this:
