Sterling: Look at us, bickering like school girls, looking around the room for things to hit each other with.
Nate: …I don’t think we were doing that.
Eliot: Chair, lamp, plant, table leg, Nate’s leg.

Sophie: Don't you miss the vivid imagination of childhood?
Nate: I never had one.
Sophie: An imagination or a childhood?
Eliot: Shut up.
Hardison: I didn't say anything.
Eliot: You were thinking, it's annoying.
@lizzysong RIGHT! Like the point started out with “the basics of every story is conflict (which is want + obstacle) action, and then resolution and if you’re missing one of these, you’ll have a hard time getting your story written” which like, yeah absolutely but then he kept going into this like we love drama and characters have to be unhappy in order for drama to happen bullshit which is like objectively not true. And his example was like, if ahab had found the whale and killed it no problem, or realized this was a stupid way to deal with his emotions it would have been a boring story but like. Objectively no? Someone getting their revenge and realizing it’s worth nothing is a CLASSIC STORY it’s just not the one being told at that time. A couple who is perfectly happy and healthy isn’t inherently boring if like, idk, their family doesn’t approve of their relationship for x reason. Like a character learning or being happy does not mean there’s no conflict? It’s so stupid.
@monstersandheartache WHEN YOURE RIGHT YOURE RIGHT. IM DONE WITH MISERY WRITING I WANT HAPPY ENDINGS ONLY.
This blog is such a great resource! Thank you for creating it! I have a question about my lawyer character: She is falsely convicted of a crime and sent to prison, so naturally her license to practice law is taken away. If it is discovered and proved that she was falsely convicted and had nothing I do with the crime and is thereafter released, is there any way she could get her license to practice law back? Thanks!!
Yes, I think if she was exonerated and hadn’t done anything wrong she would be able to practice law again.
Lawyers are governed by a licensing body just like doctors. I personally am governed by the Law Society of British Columbia, and there are similar organizations in the United States. I’m beholden to the Law Society to ensure that I act ethically and professionally, that I maintain a high standard of quality in my job, and that I basically don’t bring the practice of law and the administration of justice into disrepute (yes, that’s an actual thing).
Even if I don’t commit a crime, if I act improperly, I could be sanctioned by the Law Society, who can impose fines, suspend me temporarily from the practice of law, or disbar me. For example, I know someone personally who was extremely rude to the opposing party on one of his cases, sending demeaning and rude letters and basically terrorizing them to make them back down from their position, and he was fined by the Law Society, and his name was published along with all of the details of what he’d done. It wasn’t illegal what he did, but it was pretty shitty, and unprofessional.
We have the obligation to be fair, particularly to self-represented people on the other side, even while we “vigorously” defend our own client’s interests. For example, if I’m running a trial and I know of a major case that’s on point that is against my client’s position, and the other side doesn’t bring it up, I actually have an obligation to tell the Judge about the case! Sometimes our obligations can really seem to be competing (and are!) but that’s why they pay us the big bucks, I guess.
List 5 things that make you happy, and then put this in the last 10 people in your activity's inbox! Spread the love!
