This sweet face belongs to our favorite old lady llama. ♥️ Winnie is looking for sponsors to help pay for her arthritis medicine each month. She has chronic arthritis which pinches the nerves in her front legs making it difficult for her to get around. She has her own barn stall and little pasture and is doing well on her meds which cost about $55 a month. Look who’s home!!! Winnie the llama spent four days and three nights at UC Davis this week after struggling with mobility and being unable to walk. After an ultrasound, xrays, bloodwork, and a physical exam, the doctors concluded that she has osteoarthritis between two of her vertebrae, which is common in aging llamas, but that she likely injured her back earlier this week, further compressing the nerves that control her front legs. We got to bring her home today and she’ll be getting lots of medication and TLC for the next couple of weeks to help her, quite literally, get back on her feet. She’ll likely be on arthritis meds for life, so if you’d like to support her ongoing care you can “adopt” her by becoming a monthly supporter on Patreon or the link in our bio or donate toward our $1500 medical care goal for her UC Davis stay. Because she can’t walk right now, Winnie got the “Magic Carpet Ride” treatment at UCD today. Bloodwork came back normal, minor arthritis (common for her age) and nothing remarkable in her ultrasound.
