This Day In Wrecks

March 12, 1950: A charter flight aboard the Star Girl, an Avro Tudor 5, crashes on approach to the Llandow Aerodome in Sigingstone, Wales.  While attempting to land, the plane came in too low; when the pilot increased engine power, the center of gravity shifted, causing a nose-up stall. Only 3 passengers survived; 80 people, including all the flight crew, were killed in what was the worst aviation accident to date.  The flight was returning from a rugby match in Ireland.  A later investigation pointed toward improper loading as the cause of the stall
