heyo it’s been approx. 2 years since i finished llhcs and since i didn’t write anything last year i figured i’d do a little drabble this time so yes here is a thing!
Luke knows that it’s far too early as soon as he opens his eyes, but he doesn’t complain about having his beauty sleep disturbed when he looks up and finds Ashton grinning down at him.
“Morning, sleepyhead,” he says, sounding far too excited at this hour. Before Luke is able to comment on it, Ashton places a small box on his bare chest. “Open it.”
Luke glances down at the box, then back up at the man currently straddling his hips. The look on his boyfriend’s face amuses him more than it probably should.
“Aw, babe, you shouldn’t have,” he coos. “Seriously, my birthday was too months ago, remember?”
Ashton rolls his eyes and successfully ignores the teasing.
“Just open it.”
Luke knows when to do as he’s told, so he takes the small box into his hands and opens it, genuinely curious to find out what’s inside. When he eventually reaches into it and pulls out a cute little key-chain, he has to admit that he didn’t expect for the surprise gift to be something so random.
“Like it?” Ashton asks him, because he’s clearly impatient. “I found it at the dollar store a couple days back and instantly thought of you. Isn’t it the cutest damn thing?”
“A penguin on a surfboard...” Luke stares at the key-chain for another couple of seconds before laughing. Because, yes, he can’t deny that it’s almost as cute as he is. “How thoughtful of you.”
Ashton beams with pride. “You can think of it as a welcoming gift. Y’know, for moving in with me.”
Perhaps the cutest thing about being reminded that they live together now, is just how happy Ashton sounds when he says those words. It brings joy to the center of Luke’s tummy to think of how, just over a year before, it had taken so much courage for Ashton to even say the words “I love you.” Now, they’re officially living together and neither of them could be any happier.
With a smile, Luke raises his arms and makes grabby hands at his partner.
“Kisses?”
Ashton is more than eager to oblige, but when Luke attempts to deepen the kiss and continue the fun times that they had the night before, he’s denied when Ashton pulls away and giggles into his neck.
“Don’t be mean,” Luke whines. “I’m the guest of honor, aren’t I?”
Ashton lifts his head and fixes Luke with a particular look, one that typically means that he isn’t buying it.
“Wrong,” he says, “You can’t be a guest if you live here now, silly.”
Damn. He certainly has a point there. Still, Luke sticks out his bottom lip in a pout, hoping that it’ll at least get him some form of affection in the sexual category. And since they’ve been dating for a year and a half, he knows that if he whines long enough, he’ll eventually get exactly what he wants.
Unfortunately, Ashton just gives him a single peck on the lips before sitting up and moving towards the edge of the mattress.
“Get up, princess. I made breakfast for you.”
“Breakfast, huh?” Luke pauses to let out a yawn as he stretches his exhausted limbs. Then in a sassy tone, he says, “So breakfast is more important than fucking me?”
Ashton just snorts at such a statement, because by now he’s completely immune to Luke’s ways, even if sometimes he pretends that he isn’t. When he looks back over his shoulder, the corners of his lips are curved up into an obvious smirk that ignites a small flame in the pit of Luke’s belly.
“I did that last night, didn’t I? I’m sure you’ll survive a few more hours without my dick.”
He stands from the bed and walks away after that, leaving Luke both sexually frustrated and slightly annoyed. But the latter doesn’t last for more than a second, since Luke has been in a state of continuous euphoria for the past day or so.
It’s only been a couple of weeks since Ashton first asked Luke to move in with him. At the time, Luke had been whining about how much of a nuance it was, living in his shared apartment with Michael and Calum while also sleeping at Ashton’s loft apartment multiple times a week. He’d often accidentally leave important things behind at one place or the other, resulting in confusion and tardiness when he had to be at class the next morning.
In the middle of all that, Ashton casually made the suggestion of living together, as if that solution was the most obvious thing in the world. Though to be honest, it kind of was. Still, Luke had reacted in a series of stages: shock, hesitance, and then absolute delight. In fact, both of them were so delighted and excited that they didn’t spend a single minute unpacking Luke’s things the day before, and instead spent the evening fornicating on nearly every surface that could handle their weight.
And one surface that couldn’t, which they’ll have to replace sometime in the near future.
When Luke finally decides to get out of bed—their bed—he stretches once more and winces at the subtle aches in his legs and nether regions. On second thought, maybe it’ll be a good thing for them to hold off on sex for a little while. Sighing, Luke picks up the nearest articles of clothing left on the floor, which would be one of Ashton’s shirts and his own pair of shorts.
One of the cool things about living in a loft apartment is that everything except the bathroom is exposed from the moment that you walk into the front door. From the bed, Luke can watch Ashton preparing a plate for him in the kitchen area. He can also see the neglected boxes and bags of his personal belongings that they’ll inevitably have to do something about sooner or later, and he sees the empty pizza box on the coffee table near the sofa that they consumed together the evening before.
Honestly? Luke loves every bit of it.
He also loves that there’s already a warm mug of coffee waiting for him when he takes a seat at their breakfast nook, which they have instead of an actual table. Not only does it take up less space, but it’s also a lot cuter, in Luke’s opinion. While he downs some of the dark liquid, Ashton brings the plate over and sets it in front of him, then takes a seat on the opposite side to watch as Luke digs into the scrambled eggs. He smiles when Luke hums at the taste.
“You know what, I’m gonna cook for you someday,” Luke says in between bites. “I’ll come up with the yummiest meal, just like you always do for me.”
The way that Ashton giggles must mean that he finds it amusing. But he must also know that Luke is completely serious, because he nods before speaking up about it.
“I’ll hold you to that,” he says. He then reaches across the table to steal the piece of toast crust that Luke was neglecting. “For now, I’ve come up with a plan for us to get through the day while being entirely productive. Wanna hear it?”
Luke nods.
“First, I was thinking that we should start by unpacking all of your things and finding some places to put them, then once we’ve worked up an appetite, I’d like to take you out to lunch. Sound good to you?”
Luke nods a second time. “Can we go to that place near the beach? You know, where you took me for my birthday?”
“’Course we can,” Ashton assures him with a wide grin. “After that, we’ll come back home and we can finish whatever else that needs to be done, and then… I don’t know, we can watch a movie together?”
“Mean Girls,” Luke offers.
Ashton laughs but doesn’t deny him. “Yeah, okay, we’ll watch Mean Girls since you love it so much.”
Without missing a beat, Luke says, “Not as much as I love you.”
It pleases him greatly when Ashton’s smile widens, and though he expects what his boyfriend will say next, it doesn’t make it any less special.
“Love you too, Lukey boy.”
The day goes by in a flash and they somehow manage to get everything done, even though they spend most of the time joking around with each other and kissing. The best part has to be when Ashton shows him around the loft while pointing out random things, like where Luke could keep his toiletries and where to place his shoes, as if he hasn’t practically been living there for the past year already.
But Ashton’s excitement is cute, because Ashton is cute, so Luke will always indulge in him.
By the end of the day, Luke is still very much happy, content, and unabashedly in love. He’s also incredibly sleepy, however, as he tries his best to pay attention to the last few minutes of Mean Girls with his head resting on Ashton’s shoulder and the taste of buttery popcorn on his mouth. It isn’t until he feels a pair of warm lips against his skin that he realizes he had failed to remain conscious.
When he blinks up at Ashton for the second time that day, he finds his boyfriend smiling again.
“You fell asleep,” he says, stating the obvious. “You fell asleep on Mean Girls. Your favorite movie. How scandalous!”
Luke gasps and blurts, “I didn’t! I mean… you made me! You’re the one who woke me up so early. Like, not all of us can function on lifeguard hours, okay. Plus, all of that unpacking took away my energy and—why are you laughing? Stop laughing at once.”
“Sorry, sorry,” Ashton says, but he can’t make himself stop regardless. “You’re just really cute like this.”
Luke begins to pout. “Like what?”
“Nothing, babe, nothing.” Ashton kisses his forehead. “We should go to bed then, hm?” He adds with a smile, “Our bed.”
Since a random yawn escapes him before he can even reply, Luke has to agree with the suggestion.
“Okay,” he says, then holds out his arms. “You have to carry me, though.”
Ashton does not carry Luke to bed. He does, however, give him something else to make up for it, and it’s something that Luke will never complain about receiving.
