For what it's worth I think pepole are being dicks without cause. You expressed a personal opinion and like. If something makes you uncomfortable you're entitled to feel that way and shouldn't be shamed for bringing it up. Admittedly I'm kinda on the outskirts if the Viera stuff since I've never played XII and don't really have a strong pro and con opinion on them being the game but like. But like. However strongly folks feel they don't have the right to be dill holes.
yeah, well, a lot of fandoms have this thing where their sense of identity is kind of tied up in the media they’re consuming, to the point where criticism of that media is misinterpreted as criticism against them as a person. with that in mind, it’s not at all surprising that they’re taking the issues i have with SE as some kind of personal attack. they’re getting aggressive because they think i’m calling them out, rather than this thing that they like
being that i’m not a sociologist or anything, i don’t think i’m equipped to articulate exactly what i mean, but i feel like our collective ability to think critically has diminished, to the point that it’s now the norm to be vitriolic and reactionary. that’s definitely the case in most gaming fandoms, where difficult subjects like race, gender and mental health are now near impossible to even bring up, let alone discuss in a constructive way
