The two Sir Nigel Gresleys; A4 No. 4498 and the great locomotive designer himself. 4498 happened to be the 100th Pacific built to Gresley's designs, so someone at the LNER had the sense to name the locomotive after him. The locomotive is very much still with us and flies the flag for the A4 class as the currently sole working example.

I've seen a Godzilla meme with this exact same text in it,I simply just made a Mallard version for fun 😂 (she is my favourite locomotive out of ALL of them,she is number one! )

A triumvirate of LNER Pacifics at King's Cross shed in the late 1950's; Peppercorn A1 No. 60117 Bois Roussel, Gresley A4 No. 60033 Seagull and Gresley A3 No. 60108 Gay Crusader (Yes, that really was the locomotive's name!)

4488 Union of South Africa at speed with The Coronation in the late 1930's. She was was one of the five A4s initally dedicated to working this crack streamlined express and so bore an appropriate Commonwealth-themed name. It's worth noting that she was originally allocated the name Osprey, following the bird theme used on 4482-87 before it was decided to give the five Coronation engines Commonwealth names. Likewise, 4489 was originally to be named Woodcock and even bore those nameplates during running in, but was quickly changed to Dominion of Canada.

4468 Mallard at New Southgate with the Yorkshire Pullman in 1938. As the first A4 fitted with a double chimney and Kylchap blastpipe, Mallard was allocated to Doncaster shed when new, and so was a common sight on the Yorkshire Pullman.
