Human contact was jarringly foreign and relatively overwhelming. His hands roved over brief patches of exposed skin, tender, delicate, and yet it felt as if his fingers curled around her throat, constricting, depleting, suffocating. Her initial reaction is to wholly reject the unsolicited contact, push him away, suggest another a different activity that required them to sit across the room from each other, but she couldn’t tell you that she completely hated it. The attention, no matter how unwanted, was oddly nice in a repulsive way. Her breath hitches as his lips moved against her strained neck, and she does not relax even when he breaks contact. Haneul, for the most part, seemed vaguely unfazed, slightly oblivious with what he had just done. Sora, on the other hand, gripped the arm of the couch and was nearing the second minute in which she had yet to take a breath.
Why was the only coherent semblance of thought in her cluttered mind, concepts and theories forming before disintegrating and re-figuring their place. Why did he do that? Why, in the middle of a cinematic masterpiece, did he think now was a good time? Why isn’t he addressing what he’s just done? Why didn’t she stop him? Why did she sort of like it? His nonchalance grates at her nerves, makes her think for a brief moment, that he had grown bored of her for him to retract and melt back into his side of the couch. She’s hyper aware of the point where their knees pressed together, and is quick to readjust herself in her seat before proceeding to walk on eggshells. Gentle, agile, careful.
“Never seen it,” Her voice is strained, and she struggles to regain composure. “Probably never will. Heard I could watch Pocahontas and get the same effect.” Her archive of knowledge grows shallow in terms of pop culture, more so that factual statements are etched into memory than Blockbuster hits or music charts. Her interests range from science fiction novels to conspiracy theories sourced from the internet. There isn’t much in between, intimacy included.
“I just don’t think you’ve found what you’re looking for. And there has to be something specific, maybe something just as mentally stimulating, or so new-era that the general public hasn’t fathomed the concept yet. I’m sure there’s something from this decade that’s caught your eye.”
