When i was in high school my drafting teacher had every student fill out a “life objective” list the first week of each semester. The list was divided up into short term goals, long term goals, and different things you could do to help achieve them. There was also a section for things you were good at and things you needed to improve on. Every year, twice a year, for four years, I filled out the assignment and turned it in and never really looked back on it.
Sifting through an old schoolwork file I found every copy I ever turned in and realized how much I still have to go. Of the things I put on my senior year list, I’ve met only 2 things on my list of objectives: get a job, and own a car.
Though it comes late in the year, with really only four and a half months left, that I have decided to commit myself to a new list of life objectives that I want to achieve before I look back at the list three years from now.
There are other things I would like to do as well, like come out to the rest of my family and attain a degree of some kind as a backup plan/plan for the future should a life in retail not suit me, but those I will wait upon until these goals are met, as I do not think they are attainable until at least the first two are complete.
February 11th, 2018, I’ll check back in and see how far along I’ve come with these few things. Hopefully there will be some progress and not just excuses thrown out on a screen from a keyboard.
