Installation decisions

As I wrote my Critical and reflective evaluation over the last few days I felt that the significance of my experimentation with Super 8 film has been in the shadow of all the consideration I have given to video. I made a new way of displaying my work and considered projecting that as my show piece.
This still shows the layout, with the digital moving image on the left, alongside the super 8 looped work to the right.

While i like this arrangement, on viewing it I felt that the piece was too stimulating, as each piece competed with the other, and together undermined the meditative quality behind the work. I like the idea of split screen and am reminded of Ian Sinclaire’s London Orbital DVD. However here, when one side was active, the other was always comparatively still ie. the monotonous view from the static car window in one frame alongside a more dynamic movement showing detail which linked with the narrative.
I returned to my looped and edited super 8 scan, and after careful consideration chose this as a single projected piece for my show.
It fits most successfully my research concerns with its soft, muted imagery in looped format.
