Next step: methodically testing the firing temps of all the wild clays I have. I have 14 of them so far, and I’ve made test tiles for 5 so far. You can see I’ve stamped each tile with the cone I plan to fire it to. On the back I have initials for each clay. That way I can’t forget what each tile means.

Playful mugs from BDDW, a ceramics studio out of Philadelphia. Each of these mugs are one of a kind with the clay discovered and excavated near the studio itself.

The strained slip is then poured into bags (pillow-cases) to dry on an old sofa bed spring.

Blunging the local clay with a paint mixer on an electric drill. Varying the water /clay ratio changes how the slip suspends the larger particles.
