tuesday, we successfully hosted the inaugural Jazz Mentors Jam Session. joined by stellar players @johnkchin @endea_owensonbass & featured artist @camillethurman who are each outstanding educators, we led what was not only the first student Jam session hosted by @musicians_of_ny but the first jam session any of the students in attendance had been to. • the students had an opportunity to play alongside, learn from and get to know several of the younger staples of the New York jazz scene. for me, music has always been a learn by doing experience... as some lessons can only be learned in practice, even how to teach music. i hadn’t anticipated being as excited as i was yesterday & i’m already looking forward to our next event, this spring. thank you to the Council for Living Music & Local 802 for trusting me as your host; to my band mates for excellence in music & education; and to all the students who made yesterday a real hang! 📷 @alvestergarnett • • • • • • • #education #student #teacher #mentor #mentorship #jazz #jazzeducation #bam #swing #piano #bass #drums #tenorsaxophone #local802 #jazzmentors #jazzmentorsseries #jazzmentorsjamsession #jmstudentjam
