Virgil (Majors: English/Literature)
my neck, my back, my anxiety attack
okay but for real, virgil has the worst time with midterms because, while many of his classes require long written papers, a few if them require sit-down, timed essays as well. it’s… Hell. he’s in Hell.
anyone who has ever known virgil is well aware that midterm week is PRIME TIME for his anxiety to ramp up about 500%. it’s a damn good thing that logan is usually done with his own midterms by the time virgil’s start up, or virgil would be absolutely drowning in guilt over how much time logan dedicates to making sure that virgil isn’t actively breaking down
(virgil’s still pretty guilty about it, actually, but he’s given logan a ton of opportunities to duck out, and logan’s Still Here, so. some of that guilt is alleviated by fondness for his Large, Rational Goalie)
virgil’s really bad at taking care of himself while he cram studies. he barely eats. barely sleeps. he just re-reads the same passages and academic articles over and over again so that none of the exam essay prompts will catch him off guard. his friends usually take turns checking up on him in the library/classroom/tiny crook he has shoved himself into to focus.
it’s weird, because his mom is literally the sweetest woman on earth, so she has Never Once been concerned with him keeping up his grades. but, for some reason, if he gets anything less than a B, he feels like a massive failure.
tldr: midterm season,,, bad. luckily, he has people to help him get through it, though.
D (Majors: Government/Philosophy)
(very) lowkey stressed, but good at hiding it behind biting sarcasm and wit
D uses a lot of what he learns on a day to day basis to roast and/or debate with other people, so he usually ends up doing fine on his exams.
this, however, does not stop him from spending late nights with Logan and/or Emile in classrooms that he has just broken into, writing case after case on the whiteboard in order to memorize the details
of the core 8, D, Logan and Emile are the ones most likely to follow the system outlined in your ask. while one of them takes their turn on the whiteboard, the other two occupy themselves with Constant Movement, be it light workouts or agitated pacing
if it’s just D and Logan, D can be a bit of a menace; he’ll usually drag logan into debate purely by accident because he honestly loves fighting with an intellectual equal, but also “no, stop that, D, I need to focus”
once D and Logan start dating, the distractions are… Equally Distracting to Both of Them
D’s exams are a week after Logan and Emile’s, so when they’re studying together, he’ll dip out earlier than them more often than not.
D didn’t use to stress about grades at all, but ever since being formally adopted, he feels the obligation to (ugh) Try His Best
that said, he can get a little snippy if his midterm week is particularly hellish, because being straight up stressed is Not a Good Look for him
Logan (Major: Biochemistry, Minor: Astronomy)
logan frontloads his first year of college, meaning that he takes a Bunch of Courses so that his later years of college will hopefully go more smoothly
the good news is that this means, when he has to drop his second semester of his Sophomore year, he really doesn’t have that many classes to make up
the bad news is that this means the midterm/final season of his freshman year is Hell on Earth
his first midterm week happens at Brown, where there is no one there to stop him from just working until he can’t anymore. at this point, he does what’s been outlined in the ask; he pulls all-nighters, alternating between work, working out, and copious amounts of coffee in order to prepare for/complete the 8 assignments/exams that he has due in the span of 5 days
logan is good at time management, meaning that – in theory – he should have very little stress going into the midterm season. (In Theory). HOWEVER. pre-med is hard, so.
logan stresses, but he’s good at hiding it, mostly because he’s good at hiding a lot of things.
logan’s got an eidetic memory, which helps in his studies, but doesn’t guarantee success. that said, he’ll re-go over material that he already knows Even If he already knows it, if only to 100% ensure that he won’t forget it when actually taking the exam.
logan’s dad honestly never cared about logan’s grades all that much. he was more adamant about his son getting into college off of an atheltic scholarship for reasons that i’ll expand on in another ask.
but good grades are something that logan cherishes for his own sake. they’re something that he’s proud of for himself, so. much like with Roman, failure is NOT an option.
Emile (Major: Psychology)
emile, like logan, is good at time management. however emile, also like logan, stresses over midterms regardless, because Premed Is Hard (Reprise)
emile spends his study time alternating between taking detailed notes in his apartment/the starbucks Remy works at and – after D joins the team – sneaking into classrooms late at night to use the whiteboards
although Emile is a year further into his college career than Logan, the frontloading that Logan did (and college credits he had going into Brown University) mean that they take a lot of core, premed classes together.
that said, you can catch them studying together pretty often.
as mentioned before, these two will usually trade off on the whiteboard. while Logan draws out the TCA cycle, Emile will jog around the room. while Emile draws the Calvin cycle, Logan will get in some light abdominal exercises.
Remy and Virgil make constant pitstops to make sure that their favorite premeds are… you know… still alive.
(Remy brings coffee. Virgil brings takeout. it’s super sweet and Far Too Domestic)
emile wouldn’t stress about grades so hard if it weren’t for the fact that he wants to go to graduate school after college. after all, he knows that grades are just numbers. they don’t reflect anything about him as a person.
however, these numbers will be the Key Factor about whether or not he can pursue the graduate schooling needed for him to become a full-fledged psychiatrist, so he can’t help but worry.
catch emile taking the FATTEST NAP in Remy’s arms once that last exam has passed.
