I'm really genuinely considering locking my fics again and I encourage anyone who doesn't have an Ao3 account to go get one.

should I unlock my religious trauma wip? There are already bots accessing it and I guess the young children who I don't particularly want to read it could mind the tags
Bouncing off the AI question; I have recently started locking my fics to prevent scraping from happening. Are we going to be required to post our fics unlocked to guests as well as registered users?
This is not a requirement. You can do what you want with your own fics, you don't even need to post them if you don't want to. You are free to lock your fics, and it will still count towards completion
So I am going to lock my fics on ao3. I'm debating pulling from fanfic. If you can't access my fics because you don't have ao3 or having trouble... dm me. I think I'm going to try to figure out like a way to email or upload somehow any new fics coming out. I'll still post to ao3. I just think it's best to lock for now.
Please, do not feel like you are bothering me if you want a fic or if you know of another way to share my works! I want to share my work but I don't want my work stolen from me!
Thanks for understanding!
The AO3 kudos bot has been hitting my thorki fics, particularly my In Side Out series, pretty consistently for a while now—I don’t know for how long; it’s 3-4 kudos daily on average, which didn’t grab my attention like some people who have reported guest kudos in the double or triple digits.
I hate it, but I went ahead and locked those fics (and a couple new ones whose kudos counts seemed disproportionate). Hopefully it’ll break the cycle.
Kind of annoyed that the ratio on my most popular works are now meaningless, but I didn’t even know about the AO3 bot—or crawler, or whatever it is—until last week, so consider this a PSA to all AO3 authors who may not already know. Check your kudos, or make sure you've got the "Turn off emails about kudos" unselected in your preferences. If you’ve been getting small but daily kudos from guests over a long period of time, like me (I had to check my AO3 kudos notification emails over the last month to verify), you might be a victim.
Anyway, I've got some spare invites if anyone needs/wants an AO3 account. Just send me an ask 👍
Locking Fics on AO3
Hello,
If you suddenly lost access to my fics on AO3, it's because I locked them to registered users only.
As always, I have invitation links if anyone needs one.
I am so tired of generative AI and its methods for learning new ways to devalue people and their creativity.
I am sorry for those of you that wanted to remain anonymous while reading or leaving kudos on my stories. Perhaps one day I can unlock my fics again.
Anyway, thanks for reading and thank you for going on the journey with me.
