Widow's Bay "Lodging"
Widow's Bay S01E02 "Lodging"
The Hotel at Fifth Avenue, 17 W 32nd St 14th Floor, New York (Midtown), NY 10001
Located in the heart of Koreatown with 24-hour Korean restaurants and lots of Korean bakeries, dessert shops, beauty stores and Hmart, The Hotel at Fifth Avenue is an older, smaller hotel. The building is a designated landmark, the former Aberdeen Hotel built in 1902-1904.
The main appeal is the location by Penn Station and the Empire State Building. It’s also quiet, fairly clean, and has most of the basic amenities. Amenities (outside of your room) include a gym, ice machines, lobby area with a fireplace and a few tables and chairs, coffee/tea station, and a baggage check room.
The room is smaller and older than average. The queen bed took up half of the room. The room also had two small nightstands with lamps, alarm clock, phone, large TV with cable, dresser, closet/rack for hanging clothes, in room safe, iron, ironing board, coffeemaker (in the bathroom), full length mirror, and toiletries (nothing special – soap, lotion, conditioning shampoo). The bed was comfortable and plush but only had three pillows. In-room temperature control is available. We had a view of a few windows from one tiny window.
They’ve remodeled the interior but it’s very brown and non-descript. I did appreciate the bathtub and the hot water. But it’s a bit uncomfortable since the room has no desk/table where you can sit. The only place you can sit is the bed.
A popular Korean dessert shop, Grace Street, is located on the bottom floor.

Hyatt House, 2105 N First St, San Jose, CA 95131
We enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt House, about 2 miles from the San Jose Airport. The contemporary décor was pleasing to the eye. The common areas looked clean and inviting. There was a small market selling snacks in the lobby and a bar with a TV tuned to sports. I believe you could order food from the bar area.
The bedroom felt spacious, and the bed was so comfy (down pillows, pillowtop mattress). There were two blinds – one was a blackout shade and the other see-through. There was a couch in one corner and a table that served as a good writing table/work desk.
Things that were missing: in-room safe, closet or wardrobe with hangers
Things that could have been better: the bathroom was large enough but there was little room for your toiletries and the towels were kept in the bedroom area, parking is $17/day, the hotel wasn’t close to restaurants or shops, except for one Denny’s
Things we liked: good size gym open 24/7, complimentary tea, coffee, and hot and cold water in the lobby, lots of seating in the lobby, in-room temperature control, breakfast is included, free wi-fi, laundry room, dermatologist approved gentle shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and body lotion
The usual amenities: coffee maker, coffee, tea, microwave, ice bucket, hair dryer, large flatscreen TV, alarm clock, telephone, mini fridge
The breakfast offered more variety than usual and changed a bit every day. They had cereal, hot oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, toast, bagels, and cooked food (eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes).
The pool is outdoors and there’s even a BBQ grill out there. I don’t think we can fault the hotel because it is a non-smoking hotel, but I woke up and the room smelled like weed. This happened two days in a row. It was a strong smell.
There is a free airport shuttle. The Santa Teresa light rail station is across the street.

The Westin Bonaventure, 404 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles (Downtown), CA 90071
The Westin Bonaventure was futuristic when it opened in 1977. The idea was to build a city within a city with a mini mall, floating lounges, reflecting pools, and glass elevators. The massive hotel features 1,300 guest rooms, a large central tower surrounded by four cylinders with glass exteriors. The distinctive design is all about the views.
Today the design feels like something from the 1970s but the views remain impressive. It’s been remodeled but they do include nods to the past, like the original signage. They also have posters of some of the movies that were filmed there, like The Dark Knight Rises, Vice, True Lies, and In the Line of Fire.
Our suite featured floor-to-ceiling windows with amazing views of downtown and beyond. Because the room is in a cylindrical building, the shape is different than usual (not rectangular). The amenities included a wet bar, coffee maker, small fridge, in room safe, iron, hair dryer, lighted mirror, two closets, Westin branded white tea toiletries and aromatherapy oil, a couch, two large TVs, king size bed, complimentary tea, coffee, and bottled water.
The bed was very comfortable and plush. The room was quiet. Housekeeping came by and straightened the room everyday. We enjoyed our in room views and riding all the glass elevators.
We also received a $15 food & beverage credit per day that was accepted at the hotel restaurants, including LA Prime, CaféNOW, Lakeview Bistro, Looby Court, and Bonavista Lounge. Bonavista Lounge is the only revolving lounge in Southern California. CafeNOW is open 24 hours a day,7 days a week.
The mini mall had multiple vacant spaces and closed restaurants. There was a gift shop, spa, and large fitness center. There’s also a pool, event space/patio, and conference rooms.
Security was good. You can only access the floors with guest rooms if you have a guest key card.
Parking is $50/day but you can park in nearby garages for much less. We parked at the Bank of America garage for $10/day. Mr. Froyo gives this hotel 4.5 stars. I think that they could make better use of the space – the dead mall feels sad. Also, they were chintzy with the tea, only providing two tea bags a day.
4 out of 5 stars.

The Quiet Appeal of Upscale Lodging in Trinity Bay for Guests Who Value Privacy
The travelers of one specific kind are not looking for crowds, schedules, or checklists. They prefer the space, the silence, and these places that let them completely unplug. Upscale lodging in Trinity Bay is one of such places for these guests; it offers them the rare ability of going slow while enjoying the comfort at the same time. With the raw beauty of Newfoundland’s coast as the background, the stays that are here are the ones that have been thoughtfully designed, and they take as the first thing, the need for privacy, then the need for comfort, and, finally, the feeling of being at home.
The luxury vacation rentals in Trinity Bay attract fewer tourists than the other places due to their seclusion, and therefore, their guests get more privacy. Besides being less noisy than other luxury places, they are also less crowded. Very much so, the luxury vacation rentals in Trinity Bay offer the kind of balance that lets you have the pleasure of being very close to nature and at the same time enjoying luxurious comfort. This is a luxury that is defined by being present, not by being quiet.
Privacy as the Ultimate Luxury
For some guests, the issue of privacy is not that of a bonus feature; rather, it is one that has to do with necessity. One of the main attractive features of the upscale lodging in Trinity Bay lies in the way it combines seclusion and livable design so easily. These accommodations are made for people who want room to breathe, think, and move along with their own pace.
The concept of privacy is indeed in the very midst of people sharing hallways or bustling common areas, but here, the privacy stands for having one’s own space, one’s own rhythm, and one’s own view of how the day unfolds. Mornings take their time to come. Noises and distractions from the outside world cease to exist with the beginning of the night. There is no pressure to do the vacation “right” way.
The key features, which contribute significantly to this sense of privacy, comprise:
Spacious layouts designed for comfort, not crowding
Natural surroundings that create distance from everyday noise
Thoughtful interiors that feel welcoming rather than formal
It is through this that the guests can experience being present without being watched, which is the hallmark of the truly upscale lodging in Trinity Bay.
Comfort That Feels Effortless
Luxury shouldn’t have to declare itself. In the most memorable stays, comfort is felt more than shown. The luxury vacation rentals in Trinity Bay are crafted to make every moment special, from the person seated on the well-planned chair to the quiet night spent indoors.
This kind of comfort actually eliminates friction during the stay. You will not be modifying your needs to fit the space; the space will be molded to you. Kitchens invite cooking, living areas invite talking or meditating, and bedrooms give you sleep without interruption.
Instead of giving you a long list of extras, these rentals highlight:
High-quality furnishings meant to be lived in
Clean, calming design that doesn’t overwhelm the senses
Spaces that support both connection and solitude
It’s a style of luxury that feels natural, never forced.
The Role of Private Hot Tubs in a Quiet Stay
It’s another story for the guests who consider solitude one of the main priorities. Luxury lodging with private hot tubs means serenity and quietness. This is not about extravagance for its own sake. It is about providing a place to pause, warm up after a long day, sit in silence under the stars, or let time pass without feeling the pressure of it.
In luxury housing that comes with private hot tubs, the major topic is privacy. Apart from the fact that there’s no shared timetable, there’s also no waiting, no observance. Just room to chill and relax in the way you want. These occasions often become the most unforgettable part of a stay, not because they are thrilling, but because they are undisturbed.
Private hot tubs support:
Relaxation without leaving your accommodation
A sense of retreat within your retreat
Quiet routines that fit naturally into the day
This feature aligns perfectly with the slower, more intentional pace that guests seek when choosing luxury vacation rentals in Trinity Bay.
A Setting That Encourages Stillness
One of the major characteristics of the upscale lodging in Trinity Bay is the way it absolutely quietly makes the guests surrender to the slow pace of life. The environment does not ask for your attention; it simply presents itself. This allows the guests to be a part of it without the rush.
The hotel is so nice that an entire day can go by without planning just to feel full. You can take your time and do nothing if that is what you want. The environment invites you to think, talk, sleep, and be present all at once without even moving from your spot.
This is the main reason why the rentals of luxury vacations in Trinity Bay are a possible choice for the second time around. Not for the sake of novelty but for the sake of familiarity. For the feeling of being at home, though only for a short time.
A Thoughtful Choice for Discerning Guests
The discreet allure of the luxury lodging with private hot tubs in Trinity Bay and the luxury lodgings there is mainly in what it does not try to be. It does not seek the limelight, does not make grand promises, and simply provides a venue where there is seamless cooperation of privacy, comfort, and the beautiful design of nature.
This type of accommodation feels like the right option, not only a place to stay but a place to breath out for those guests who prefer peace to an en masse presence and quality to quantity.
