It’s so frustrating when I glimpse a home that I want to see more of and can’t find. Well, I discovered that 8 times out of 10, it’s posted on Airbnb. I also read that travelers are going back to hotels, b/c Airbnb is getting ridiculously expensive and owners are leaving notes of instructions, like “start the laundry & take out the trash,” even though they paid a cleaner’s fee. 

Anyway, I wanted to see more of Lucas’s funky New York City loft with all the colorful art, and guess where I found it-  yes, available to rent on Airbnb. 

I like the way he layers some of the art, rather than puts it up on the wall.

Even though it’s a true artist’s loft, Lucas says he painted all the art right in the kitchen. 

He has some cool collections, too. Look, he even has Jeannie’s bottle.

The kitchen is pretty roomy and light, so I guess it would be a good place to paint.

This is beautiful. I’m sure that this 2 bd. loft doesn’t come cheap. 

The guest bd. is quite a large space, also.

What a great neighborhood. I can only dream of renting a place like this. I couldn’t even afford the Airbnb price of $675 per night.

Actor B.D. Wong collects chiming clocks, vintage grease cans and old sewing drawers, among other things. This shelving unit was designed for him, and built  from repurposed wood and his collection of sewing drawers and old yardsticks.

When he bought this fabulous loft, that he filled with his eclectic collections, its barrel-vaulted brick ceiling was covered in plaster. And, the apartment had previously been a sweat shop, a Yiddish theater and a porn theater. Plus, the former owner had given it his own particular stamp, with silk wallpaper and silver paint. Wong has since sold the loft. Why do these wealthy people buy and fix up these fabulous places, then sell them?

This wire locker storage unit was found online, the bronze front doors came from a bank in Philadelphia, by way of Demolition Depot, the architectural salvage store.

The mahogany French doors and shutters that divide the loft came from Demolition Depot, the 1916 Steinway was bought from an estate sale and refurbished by Beethoven Pianos in Manhattan.

These office doors were bought from an old office building called the Puck Building. 

This shallow “closet” holds a collection of hats and keys.

The kitchen cabinets are faced in zinc, the island top and counters are honed black granite and the shop stools were found online at an industrial supply company.

This bath is elegant and has an antique vanity, beautiful tile “carpet” and a chandelier.

Downstairs is an intimate residential cellar used as the master suite with a red lacquered floor, sliding industrial doors, unique exposed brick, stainless steel counter and decadent spa details.

One of the most magical things in New York City is the surprise you can find when looking for an apt. Take this loft apt. in Manhattan’s East Village. This is the entrance. Doesn’t look like much, and there’s a graffitied industrial door out front.

But, look at what’s inside.

Beautiful exposed brick walls. All it needed was some bright furniture and lots of plants.

This is so lovely. The dining room furniture is fabulous- different pieces in the same rich wood hue. 

The completely stainless steel kitchen looks like a real chef’s setup- even the counters are stainless.

The bedrooms are in the back, down a hallway that looks like a regular apt. Check out the wavy shelving.

The 1st bedroom is large enough to fit 2, with room to spare. There’s room for a desk, a table & chairs, an armoire, and more. 

A thin dividing wall separates it from a 2nd bedroom. 

This room has a large bed and a desk, even though it’s smaller. 

There’s a shower for the 2 bedrooms to share.

And this is the main bedroom. 

The main bedroom has it’s own bath. What a great apt. Who knew?

Love this uniquely fabulous loft in Brooklyn, New York, that the owner calls “The Bird’s Nest.” It’s full of unusual vintage finds and 3 fabulous fish tanks.

The apt. enters directly into the living room. You can see the large fish tank on the right.

There are 2 bedrooms, but the master is actually a raised platform in the living room area. Looks like it’s on a stage, doesn’t it? There’s lots of storage underneath, and room for a huge armoire.

One thing about lofts- if they have big factory windows, they get tons of light.

If you can get your hands on an old accordion, cheaply, go for it.

On the other side of the fish tank is a compact kitchen- a cart was made from copper pipes and copper sheets form a backsplash. 

The saltwater fish tank is a stunning piece. 

The bedroom is used as a guest room. 

Nice bathroom with a smaller tank. 

This cool shelf is a DIY that was made with copper pipes and wood.

When I first saw this home, I thought that it was in Spain, but it’s actually a loft in the TriBeCa section of New York City. It’s colorful and very unique.

If there’s one thing I can’t seem to control, it’s loose cushions. They look great, but if people, dogs, and the occasional cat sit on them, it looks like the living room exploded.

They chose to separate the dining area with a screen. The screen is see-through, so it doesn’t block the sight-line, and the finish matches the table and chairs.

This is a beautiful set and it does look like it belongs in a villa.

Large galley kitchen. I recently read that galley kitchens were modeled after ship’s galleys b/c of their efficiency. I like them for that reason- everything is very easily accessible. I like the glass upper cabinetry, too.

Colorful casual kitchen seating. 

Very nice idea- two large corbels and a glass top make a pretty desk.

The main bedroom is uncluttered and subdued. 

The master bath is quite beautiful. I’m not a fan of beige in any form, but the tile has a nice color variation.

The 2nd bedroom belongs to a young boy. He has a large seating area and a very sleek midcentury desk.

Love the 2nd bath’s design better than the master. Tintin is the perfect decoration for a boy’s bath.

What a beautiful, bright, loft  in the Williamsburg section of New York City.

The living room area is so cute, and has double doors that let in fresh air, even though it doesn’t have a terrace.

The kitchen is a professional cook’s setup. Love the little vintage car under the island.

The master bedroom is large enough to have a sitting area. 

It even has a kitchenette.

The 2nd bedroom is a guest room.

This 19th century former power station in SoHo, New York City, has been transformed into the most luxurious loft. 

There’s a gorgeous marble fireplace in the sitting room that also converts to a movie room.

A spacious kitchen is off the living room.

Beautiful dining room.

Amazing library/home office.

The music room has a starry night sky painted on one wall.
