The Cocaine Scene is the first single from the original motion picture soundtrack to The Pain and The Power, releasing September 4th on Grammy Award-winning band Portugal. The Man’s KNIK Records.

Written during a period of profound letting-go, the album captures indie pop musician Logan Lynn in the act of releasing people, beliefs, and identities that once felt inseparable. The album features collaborations with Kyle Andrews, as well as Brian Fortson (Classtronaut), and Dale Hiscock (Endless Atlas).

Lyrically, the songs circle themes of loss, forgiveness, and the grief that accompanies change. These are not breakup songs in the traditional sense; they are goodbyes. The record is a farewell to childhood faith, to love, to the illusion that holding on is the same as being strong, and to an idea of a life — and a country — that perhaps no longer exists.

Logan Lynn is a songwriter, producer, filmmaker, television personality, band manager, and activist who Billboard writes “has made a career out of crafting catchy, disorderly songs with big beats, fun melodies, and cheeky lyrics.”

Over a 25-year career, Lynn has released albums and singles on Portugal. The Man’s KNIK Records, Caroline Records, EMI Records, The Dandy Warhols’ Beat The World Records, Greyday Records, Mohr Media, Banana Stand Records, Kill Rock Stars, and his own imprint, Logan Lynn Music.

Logan is the former host of NewNowNext Music on MTV’s Logo Network, and his music and videos have appeared on MTV, VH1, Logo, Spike TV, Revry, and other platforms since 1998. His work has also appeared in international advertising campaigns for brands including CoverGirl, Oscar de la Renta, Nicole Miller, and Volkswagen.

Lynn signed to Kill Rock Stars in 2020 and was named to the OUT100 in the Performers of the Year category the following year. His recent releases include the album SOFTCORE (2024) and its companion HARDCORE, featuring numerous collaborators.

Logan left Kill Rock Stars in 2025 to sign with Grammy Award-winning band Portugal. The Man’s new record label, KNIK Records, and announced that a forthcoming album would also serve as the original motion picture soundtrack for a documentary film about his life and career, The Pain And The Power.

On today's episode, I talk to musician Logan Lynn. Born in York, Nebraska, Logan eventually moved to Portland after a tumultuous childhood. His musical career began there when he was discovered by The Dandy Warhols. Since 1998, he's released over a dozen albums and EPs on labels like EMI and Caroline, hosted NewNowNext Music on the Logo Network, and in 2021 was named one of the OUT100 in the Performers of the Year category by Out Magazine. This is just a small smattering of his accomplishments. His latest album New Money is out now on Kill Rock Stars!
