Some Log Horizon NA Server worldbuilding *gasp*
Some context first off. Blah, blah, blah I probably sucked at grammar usage, hope reading this doesn’t melt your brain. Also this bit refers to a (rarely) worked on fanfic for Log Horizon of mine in which I have created a new Adventurer city on the North American server called The Commonwealth (super original eh?) of which represents what would be Washington D.C. and frankly I’m surprised it wasn’t already something as it is our nations capital and to me seems to lend itself as some prime NA server writing material just by existing. Anyways this is my take on how I think the eastern coast players (because I believe players would probably be separated by east coast and west coast as the country is large and it just seems logical for players to start somewhere more familiar to them) of Elder Tale would assemble themselves after being trapped and realizing they needed some form of government or bad things were going to happen, like the Food Riots. It is super unoriginal sounding and I feel that kind of makes it more believable because really we Americans aren’t that original in the first place and I am a tad lazy when it comes to naming stuff too, but mostly cause the first reason.
Enjoy my crappy writing.
============================================================== The Senate After witnessing the chaos that engulfed The Big Apple, a number of influential guilds both large and small gathered and created The Senate; a body of government that would discuss and make decisions in the hope of not repeating the events of the Food Riots. To solidify their power over The Commonwealth they united their money to acquire key buildings such as the Cathedral and the Guild Building all under separate and trustworthy guild leaders so that no one person or group could control the city.
In need of a place to gather and a symbol of power, The Senate chose to occupy the Elder Tale’s equivalent of the Capitol Building in the real world and make use of the Senate Chamber within to hold their meetings. The chamber itself is large enough that every guild leader representing the city has a place to sit and room for their aides to assist; the chamber also has enough seats for special guests and their assistants.
The system is a simple matter of each guild leader having one vote to use upon the time of a voting call and votes are taken by a raising of hands and tallied up by a designated member. Once a decision is made and depending on the ratio of yes and no votes, they may discuss further how the winning vote could be modified in a reasonable manner to be seen as more fair to the other side, however if the winning side decides that no modifications need or should be made it will pass without change.
To fund the payments on the buildings they purchased; The Senate collects taxes from services across the city like banking and businesses ran by both Adventurers and People of the Land. The taxation is regarded to be fair and reasonable by most residents of the city, but as always there will be those who disagree with it such as Lander nobles who feel the taxation takes money away from their domains, however knowing the Adventurers are far more powerful than they could ever hope to be the nobles remain quietly complaining in their castles.
