Affinity Chart Update: @atonings
He realizes he has wandered quite far in his search for a piece of crystal this big. He assumes he’s somewhere in Goldenward, at least by the shape of the buildings. Camping under the awning of a cafe, he sets down his Monado at his left - the blue glow seeming all the brighter when reflected against the white around him - and gets to work shaping the four-foot-long crystal.
Sitting on the wooden table instead of the cold stone floor, he uses the position to hold the bigger crystal between feet and chip away at it with a much smaller, rounded piece he had found early on. From his vantage point he spots a stranger walking through the street, one that reminds him of the veterans in his Colony who had survived the first Mechon war.
“If you live around here, you might as well not bother to return to your house.” Shulk figures he should offer the stranger some friendly advice. “Everyone who wasn’t locked in their houses by the strange snow has been locked out. It’s best if you seek shelter elsewhere until you can gather the resources to break in.”
“People are calling it diamond, but it’s definitely not diamond,” he says as he examines his crystal. Then, finding a good spot, he hits the large chunk with the smaller one and breaks off a small, sharp piece, like one might chip away at flint to make arrowheads. “It behaves a lot like diamond; it has a similar appearance and breakage points, but it’s definitely not diamond.” Shulk knows he talks the most when he’s either working on or explaining something. He hopes he won’t drive the stranger away with his chatter. Pausing, he writes down something in the notebook he has opened on his right.
