@thatsthat24 So I wrote this poem before becoming a Fander but re-reading it last night made me think of Prince (though its overall message is technically more Logic). I just couldn’t stop thinking about Prince, and I have to admit Anxiety slipped in my thoughts too. So here’s the poem:
There are tales abound,
In this world, I have found.
But do the stories reign true
For me and for you?
There are fables of daring acts,
Worlds with a beast who attacks.
You become the hero-brave to fight
‘Gainst the beast at midnight.
Escape into a world without question
Though it might be one of deception
For if it seems too grand
You may wish to vacate the land.
Travel to another, if you’re so bold,
Perhaps a place you’ll never grow old.
See what adventures await you, there,
In a world without despair.
In the Black Forest of lore,
Find wisdom behind a door.
The stories, you will find,
Are mysteriously intertwined.
Stories told by famous tellers,
Their characters are famous dwellers.
Penned by Grimm, Andersen, and Perrault
Into the forest, their characters go.
Never knowing what lies within
They enter the unknown without chagrin
Heading down the path of righteousness
Lest their tale end in lifelessness.
Cover-to-cover a new tale awaits,
Wondrous realms within their gates.
If you don’t cross that sphere
How might I meet you here?
Through the pages, you leap,
And the words your eyes do reap
The vast journeys one can take.
Oh, the stories one might make.
Journey into this book with me
Where perhaps we might find the key
And quest for legendary relics of gold
In valleys deep where myths are told.
Words have wisdom all their own
Of kind melody and of soft tone
And for those who follow it without fear,
The allegory is painfully clear:
Escape to fantasy a world,
By way of imagination, you are hurled.
Words can be friends as well as foes
And through them, one can dispel all woes.
So the message is technically about reading and the magic of books but I pictured Prince doing all those things as I read it this time.
(I can’t believe I’m saying this but: reblogs are welcome reposting is not)
* Also, the title comes from the title of a Hans Christian Andersen story.
