The Kanta-Loimaa Church

If you’re ever driving between Turku and Tampere on the E63 (also known as the Aura-Pirkkatie or Valtatie 9 [red square with a 9 on it]), the Kanta-Loimaa Church is definitely worth a look.

This impressive church seems a bit out of place when viewed from Seututie 213 because Loimaa proper is located about 8 kilometres southeast. The town used to be centred around this church, but completion of the Turku–Toijala railway in 1876 resulted in many of the local businesses moving to the new, busier town centre near the railway line.

During the summer, at least, there are tours of the church (in Finnish and possibly in English, I’ve never been on one) but I read somewhere (that I can’t seem to find again...) that there are tours whenever the local museum is open.
