Summery: Silly, fluffy and soft little drabble about two lonely people becoming friends. Gender neutral reader character.
Notes: Sometimes even I'm in a soft and fluffy mood. This is my first time and trying to write a drabble. I know I don't write many one shots (they don't call me the slow burn queen for nothing) and I find it difficult to get in my usual writing style into a one shot if that makes sense, but let me know what you think of me doing these and if you enjoy this! I might do some more because I found this super fun!
You had noticed Loki hand around with the other Avengers. Never joined in in team activities, movie nights or drinking and games nights.
You began to wonder why that might be.
Then you realised that when he did hang around with the avengers, they would be constantly making snide comments or make jokes that Loki would inevitably be the butt of.
If you were constantly made to be the fool, or if people kept using your past traumas to goad you, you would probably not want to hang out with them either.
Although Loki’s restrictions were eased, you never saw him leaving the tower much either.
In fact when you weren’t on missions, you only ever saw him in the training room or the library. Otherwise he seemed to be in his bedroom.
One night, when you couldn’t sleep, you went into the kitchen to make some tea and you found him trying to cook food in the middle of the night.
“You can put potatoes in the Microwave for ten minuets, and then finish them off in the oven, it takes a shorter amount of time.”
“Yes, I know that.”
You pour the tea.
“If I did want to use one of these micro things, where would I find one?”
You show him the settings and how to use it. You say your goodbyes and return to your bedroom, wondering about why he doesn’t eat dinner with everyone else, you’d never seen him in the kitchen before.
Then you consider that maybe he is purposefully avoiding the kitchen.
The idea that Loki would feel so uncomfortable in the place where he lives as to not eat until past midnight makes your heart hurt.
Really, other than Thor, who else did Loki talk to outside work?
As far as you are aware, he doesn’t have any friends or a partner…
You too often don’t feel as though you fit in with the other avengers and you knew what it was like to feel surrounded by people but also feel unwanted.
Perhaps you and Loki are not so different.
Project befriend Loki starts immediately.
You decide you will need to take it very slow, approaching the situation like one would approach a feral kitten.
You start sitting in the library when Loki is in there, far enough away as to not scare him away, but close enough to make the occasional eye contact when you look up from your pages.
After repeating this a couple of times, you bring up the courage to ask him about his book.
Your conversations are very brief, and Loki is quite stoic. You wonder if Loki is getting annoyed by your presence.
You try and take things a step further. The next time you go to the library, you bring him a coffee.
You’re not entirely sure what kind of coffee Loki would like, so you take him your favourite.
Loki looks very surprised and a little suspicious when you first give him it but he takes it with a nod of his head.
You watch him over the cover of your book to see if he drinks it.
When he does, you can see him wince a little, clearly not loving it.
He notices you watching and straightens his face.
“It’s…enjoyable. Thank you.”
He’s lying to you, he hates it but you smile and throughout the afternoon he continue to take little sips.
The next day, he brings you a coffee from the same coffee shop you had been to.
“Thank you. But you didn’t have to get me one, I didn’t give you one to receive one in return.”
He looks confused at that.
“But then I would owe you.”
You shake your head. “Nope, sometimes a nice gesture is just a nice gesture.”
A few days later, Loki isn’t in the library, but you find a book where you normally sit with a note.
“A gesture.”
You eventually build up the courage to knock on his bedroom door one morning. He looks surprised but not unhappy to see you. You ask him if he would like to visit the bookshop with you.
“You have such good taste in books you see.”
Loki agrees, and during your outing, you see Loki smile for the first time.
You go on a few more little dates trips, and Loki starts to talk more. You have longer conversations together. You find out his interests, what makes him laugh.
He starts to come out of his room a bit more, even joining a movie night. Sitting next to you, of course.
He makes silly comments throughout it about the idiocy of the characters, much to the annoyance of the other Avengers but you and Loki don’t mind them.
In fact, you found movie night was a whole lot more entertaining now.
After a few months of getting closer, you heard from Thor that it was Loki’s birthday.
You get him a card and a new book (shocker).
You sign the card “Love your favourite person and dearest friend.”
When Loki opens it he is very quiet and to begin with you think you’ve upset him.
“Sorry, maybe I pushed a boundary by giving you a present. I hope you…”
“You’re my friend?” He asks.
“Pardon?”
“My…friend. You’re my friend?”
“Absolutely. And you’re mine.” You say confidently
He smiles widely.
“Thank you. I am…honoured to be your friend. And don’t tell Thor but you’re right, you are my favourite person.”

You felt like you were falling, only upwards. The lights swirled around you, green, blues, reds, blurring into one. To begin with, you kept your eyes open and your mouth hung in a silent scream. After a while, you shut both, afraid you might be sick. You saw what Thor meant about not leaving the tunnel of light, and resisted the impulsive urge to stick your hand outside.
Finally you landed on solid ground. At first, you managed to land on your feet, but after taking a few steps forward you began to stumble. Before you could topple to the ground, someone grabbed hold of your arm from behind you. You looked around and blinked stupidly at Loki.
“Worst hangover cure ever.” You said weakly, Loki supporting most of your weight.
You thought you saw a hint of a smile but he looked at you concerned.
“Are you okay?” He asked. “Thor is such an oaf, he never should have sent you through alone for your first time.” He frowned angrily.
Were you okay? You’d just transported from an alien planet on a magical rainbow. Okay wasn’t the exact word you’d use. Everything felt like it was still moving and If you closed your eyes you could still see the colours. You informed Loki of this who suggested to breathe deeply until it passed. You did as he advised and closed your eyes.
“You came.”
You opened your eyes in time to see him nod, sheepishly.
Soon the dizziness subsided and you came back down to earth, literally. Now you were feeling back to yourself, you realised Loki was still holding you upright. The moment was nice while it lasted and then you remembered his words from the morning.
“Hey.” You ripped your arm from his grasp and stepped back.
“Mortal?” Loki raised his eyebrow in confusion
“Don’t mortal me. You were a dick to me earlier for no reason, what happened to breaking cycles and telling me not being unwanted. You went from that to telling me you don’t want to be my friend in the space of a day? Jesus Loki I thought we were getting on there for a second.”
Loki sighed and spoke your name.
“Don’t bother, Asgardian.” You tried to muster as much venom behind your words as he did when he called you mortal. “Clearly your pretty speeches meant nothing.”
Before Loki could say anything, Thor suddenly appeared from the sky, quickly followed by Tony. You gave him a last glare for good measure before finally taking in your surroundings. You seemed to be on the helicopter landing on top of very tall tall building. You had no desire to examine exactly how tall however, and kept as far from the edge as possible.
“Welcome to the Avengers tower!” Tony announced as he flung his arms open wide. He seemed suspiciously fine despite traveling on the Bifrost.
He paused for dramatic effect. When it seemed he wasn’t going to get a reaction he sighed.
“Hey Friday, get everyone to congregate, it’s time for a team meeting.”
***
This was, arguably, the most awkward you had ever felt in your life. You were in a large meeting room, with a huge screen at the front of the room. One side of the room was made completely of glass, giving you an expert view of the sun starting to set over New York. No-one however, was training, as they were currently all in the meeting room with you.
Ah. The Avengers, in the flesh.
You’d certainly had more enthusiastic welcomes.
Hawkeye was glaring at Loki from across the table; and Loki was smirking right back at him with his feet on the table. Natasha sat next to Hawkeye, eyeing Loki suspiciously but shooting Hawkeye warning looks. Vision sat looking passive and unperturbed, as Wanda sat next to him, paying more attention to him than anything else.
Captain “call me Steve” America had his arms folded and was frowning slightly as he waited for Tony to start. You had felt rather giddy when he’d shaken your hand earlier and asked you to call him by his first time. Sam “call me Steve” Wilson, who had also shaken your hand and suggested you called him Steve as a joke was now playing Candy Crush on his phone.
Thor had invited himself to stand in prime position at the front of the room with Tony.
“So…” Tony cleared his throat “nice to see everyone together.”
Hawkeye scoffed audibly.
“Is this some kind of joke? Is anyone going to explain why he is here.” He narrowed his eyes at Loki.
Tony sighed,
“Look, as I said before I left, I went to Asgard to get Thor’s help - “
“Thor’s help. Not Loki’s.” Natasha chimed.
“Listen - er team” Thor began as though he was trying out the word team for the first time. "My brother -“
“Your brother tried to take over all of Earth, and succeeded in destroying half of New York. He shouldn’t even be back on this planet.” Hawkeye contended.
Tony sighed and began rubbing his eyes again, looking, frankly, exhausted.
You and me both.
“We need all the help we can get…”
“Not from him. Never from him.”
“What about my help Barton? Do you need that?” Thor interjected.
Hawkeye raised his eyebrows.
“If you make my brother leave I will leave with him. It’s both of us or neither of us.”
You shot a quick glance to Loki, who was staring at Thor in genuine shock. He blinked a couple of times with widened eyes and his forehead creased, with a slight smile on his face. He caught you staring and quickly changed his facial expression to his usual stoic one.
When no one said anything Hawkeye stood up.
“Really?” He barked at Tony.
Stark half shrugged uncomfortably.
“This is ridiculous. I’m not doing any missions if he’s involved.” He made to leave the room then turned back.
“How the mighty Avengers have fallen; now we’re, what? Recruiting evil beings? Consorting with the enemy?”
There was another awkward silence. Hawkeye shook his head.
“Shame on all of you.” He left the room.
The door shut with a loud slam.
You let out a deep breath, the tension still thick in the air.
Tony looked at Natasha, as if he expected her to follow. She stared at him back for a couple of moments, before rolling her eyes and sinking back into her chair. Tony gave a little grateful smile and continued.
“So. As I was about to say, Thor and um…Loki have come to help us with our current crisis. The Asgarians are aware of the threat facing Earth - “
“Well,” Thor interrupted, “We know of the Fire Demons from Muspelheim, the creature you seem to have captured. Plus we have an idea of how they got to Earth, the Convergence.”
“The what?”
“Who?”
Natasha and Wanda spoke simultaneously.
Thor and Tony explained the convergence and the fire demons and the connections to Asgard. You took this time to zone out and focus on the Avengers around you. Captain America seemed to be listening raptly, his frown getting deeper as the conversation continued. He was, objectively, a good looking man; for a 70 year old. The blonde hair blue eyed looked didn’t particularly do much for you though, in a perspective partner.
You’d had a friend who had been really into Captain America as a kid, with posters of him in her bedroom.
Your friends.
Your stomach suddenly flipped. You were back on Earth; you could contact your friends and family!
For some reason, that fact hadn’t occurred to you before.
You were brought back into the present for a second.
“So Thor and Loki are going to try and talk to that fire demon thing? Their “all speak” means they will be able to understand it?” Steve Rogers asked.
Thor shifted guiltily,
“Loki will be attempting to speak to it tomorrow. I have to be ahem, elsewhere.”
“What he means is he has a hot date with a certain Doctor Jane Foster.” Tony clarified.
“Why tomorrow, why not today?” Natasha asked.
“It’s been a long day for us, interrogating is better done with a clear head.”
Natasha looked at Tony,
“Are you sure it’s a good idea to let him speak to this demon? How do we know he won’t just conspire with it and take over the world. Again.”
“A valid point!” Tony clapped his hands. “Which is why one of you will be working directly with Loki to complete this task. And indeed, any further tasks or missions he is on during his stay here.”
Tony paused,
“Any takers?”
Un-surprisingly the room was quiet.
“Perhaps we’ll just circle back to that one later…Speaking of everyones favourite emo, there will be some rules he will have to follow during his time here of course.”
“I’m doing you a favour and yet I have to follow rules here?” Loki scowled, having been notably quiet so far.
“The last time you were here you tried to destroy everyone here man. Excuse us for being a bit cautious.” Sam said.
“To begin with, Loki will not be allowed to leave the premise at all, except for any specific missions. He is by no means allowed to…mix with the general public. If he behaves, he may be allowed out supervised.”
“I wouldn’t want to mix with the Midgardians anyway.” Loki hissed.
“That kind of attitude is what’s keeping you locked in.” Vision supplied.
Loki glared at him dangerously, but Vision remained unbothered.
Stark continued to discuss some other terms and conditions for Loki’s stay. You were still feeling
antsy, wondering how long this meeting would continue so you could charge your phone to speak to your loved ones.
Wait, you still had your phone right?
Shoving your hands into your pockets, you sighed with relief feeling it still there. There was something else in there too, something smooth and round. You grabbed it and pulled it out to inspect it. It was the stone Loki had given you before the troll attack.
That had been kind of nice…
You automatically looked up at him, and to your surprise you found him smirking back at you; as if he knew what you were thinking. Knowing Loki he probably did.
You felt your face heat up and made a point of ignoring him. You could feel his eyes glaring into the side of your face as you pointedly stared at Thor.
“So nice of you to keep my gift darling.”
“Ahh!” You yelled.
The meeting paused for a second as everyone turned to look at you.
You blinked, realising that Loki had just spoken to you in your head and…and… you had just screamed in the middle of meeting with the Avengers.
Your face heated even more. Loki grinned delightedly at the scene.
“S-sorry. I thought I saw a…” you trailed off.
You decided to leave out the fact that Loki seemed to be able to talk to you telepathically incase they thought you were in cahoots with Loki.
Thinking about it, you were in cahoots with Loki.
God.
Everyone continued to stare at you. Way to go for not drawing attention to yourself.
You glared venomously at Loki, who continued to grin back at you.
“Whose the kid?” Sam asked.
“Er this is Latte.” Thor shot you a strange look. “She fell through the convergence too, from Midgard to Asgard. She’s been travelling with us ever since.”
“And why is she still here?” Natasha raised a brow.
Yeah fair question.
“Tony said I could help.” You quickly replied before Stark did.
Natasha’s brow raised further as she turned back to Tony expectantly. “Oh?”
‘We…well - I don’t remember exactly saying…”
“Sure you did. Since I have such invaluable first hand experience of the convergence -“
“Yeah yeah although - ” Tony interrupted,
“What can you do?” Sam asked you, interrupting Tony back as he looked up from his game.
You thought for a moment. What could you do?
Compared to the people in your present company, perhaps not that much. You quickly racked your brain trying to think about something, anything that you could do that the others couldn’t.
Come on come on…
“I would work with Loki.”
There was a moment of contemplation, as everyone considered this. You avoided Loki’s eyes, although you could feel them boring into the side of your face.
“You know… supervise him on tasks, make sure he’s not taking over the world, ensure he isn’t leaving the premise to terrorise any humans. Um..”
You had their attention, you could tell they were starting to consider the idea.
“As I explained to Mr. Stark earlier, I’m also pretty smart and a quick learner. I have experience in diplomacy and creating inter-universal relations with individuals under high pressure situations.”
‘Diplomacy and inter-universal relations’ (not murdering Loki). ‘High pressure situations’ (having to deal with Loki).
“Yeah okay kid I don’t need your C.V.”
You waited with bated breath. Had you managed to grab yourself a job at Stark industries? Or was this the end of your adventure?
“Fine, you can stay. You’re right, no one else is going to volunteer to work with Reindeer Games, Lord knows why you have, and it makes it easier for it to be someone that already has experience with him. That way I don’t have to force some poor unexpected intern.” Tony mumbled.
“It’s not going to be easy. For the first few days of his time on Earth I want him watched like a hawk. Surveillance cameras will be set up of course, and guards close by…but it might be better to have someone with him constantly to begin with to make sure he really isn’t up to anything funny.”
Wait, hold on -
“In fact, for vigilance sake, the two of you will be sharing a room.”
You felt your face drop.
This cannot be happening?
Again?
***
“Shut-up”
You could tell that Loki was grinning at the ceiling at he laid next to you.
“I didn’t say anything,"
“Tony said it was only for a few days until they’re certain you’re not going to murder everyone.”
He didn’t reply. Despite his quietness, you knew he was continuing to amuse himself with how annoyed the situation was making you.
“Ugh. You’re insufferable. Fuck my actual life.”
You flipped your legs out of the bed and stormed out of the room.
Just when you thought you’d escaped him…
Granted, the apartment Stark had provided you with was definitely big enough for two. A much larger bedroom than you had been used to these past few day and a huge bathroom with what looked like thousands of different shower settings that you were frankly terrified to attempt to use. Still, running water made a nice change.
The kitchen/ dining / living area felt like it was nearly as big as the whole of your actual apartment at home.
You helped yourself to a glass of water (all taps seemed to be touch activated, which you only worked out after you had accidentally set them all off and drenched yourself) and opened the glass doors to the little balcony.
You took a few deep breaths and checked your phone. Since charging it and getting back in touch with family and friends, it had been beeping non-stop. You were feeling pretty overwhelmed. You knew you were being slightly unfair by not replying to them, but it was so exhausting repeating the same story over and over; yes you were okay, yes you had been to Asgard, no you hadn’t gone insane.
They were just worried about you; and not overly chuffed to find out that you would not be returning home for a while. They had enjoyed the tour of your new apartment however, and you decided to miss out the fact Loki was also staying there.
After replying to a few more messages, you turned your phone back off. That was unlike you, you mused. Before, you had been attached to your phone as though it were an extension of your arm, it felt strange to acknowledge you hadn’t missed is as much as you thought you would.
Tiredness didn’t even cover how you felt. You thought back to the morning, travelling to Asgard and preparing to leave it behind. The capital of Asgard felt like a whole different world to the noisy New York night below you. You were beyond tired, yet unsure if you would ever feel ready to sleep.
You could hear movement inside the apartment, but you choose to ignore it. You continued to think about Loki’s words to you that morning, that you were not friends…
Given the excitement of the day you hadn’t had time to reflect on where this left yours and Loki’s “relationship.”
“Mortal.” Loki spoke from behind you.
“I thought I told you not to call me that?” You spoke without turning.
Loki sighed and spoke your name as he came and stood by your side, looking out onto the city with you.
No one spoke then for a while, and you waited to see what he would do. After some time, you could feel him shuffling slightly next to you.
“I - “ He cleared his throat.
“I wanted to…” He cleared his throat again.
“To…say something.”
Um okay.
“What did you want to say Loki?” You asked.
“This morning. I was being a “dick” as you put it.”
Ah. You waited again, to give him time to expand.
“I didn’t mean what I said, when I said that we were not…friends. I was acting wrongfully and I took my anger out on you.”
“What anger?” You spoke.
“Hm?”
“I mean, why were you angry at me? We had been getting on yesterday?”
“I wasn’t angry at you I was angry at…” He stopped suddenly. “It doesn’t matter.”
“If we are to be…friends, then we should probably tell each other more things about one another. Like what we’re upset about. That’s what some friends do.”
Loki gave a solemn nod.
“Very well. If you must know, I wasn’t feeling overjoyed at the prospect of returning to Asgard.”
“Oh, right. Is that because you don’t get on with Odin?” You asked tentatively.
“Mm. Partly.”
You could feel him shutting down and you didn’t push further, not wanting to ruin things.
He breathed out,
“Some…other things too. My fa- Odin, wants me to marry.”
“Oh.” That took you by surprise.
You couldn’t really think of any response to that.
“He has dropped several considerable hints that he will arrange something between myself and Lady Yrsa.”
Your eyes widened.
“Yrsa?” You repeated. “You’re annoyed about that?” You asked, unsure. If the other day was anything to go by he hadn’t exactly been rejecting any relations between the two of them.
Loki sighed and rolled his eyes as if it was obvious.
“Well excuse me for asking, you seemed rather cosy with her the other night. Christ, if you didn’t want to marry her there are better ways to do that than sleeping with her. Not sleeping with her, for one example, maybe you could try that one time.”
Loki shot you an annoyingly salacious grin.
You were loosing your patience, what was the point of this conversation again?
“I’m sorry that you’re being forced to marry someone you apparently don’t want to. That sucks and thanks for telling me how you felt. Next time you feel that way, maybe we can talk about it before you act like a knobber. I’m going to bed now.”
You began to walk away.
“Wait, that’s not the only reason.”
You raised your brows expectantly.
“I was…well… the fact is, I have never had many friends before.”
You were taken aback by this sudden show of vulnerability, and bit back your retort, knowing this was extremely unlikely to happen again.
“I’m not the kind of person you want as a friend, I am not a… friendly creature. That is to say, I don’t know exactly…how to…” he halted,
“Be someones friend?” You finished for him and he nodded.
“What do you want from me?” He asked.
You were quiet for a moment. Perhaps you and Loki were not so different really, you knew what it was like to be lonely.
You were both a little too much and not enough. Too talkative but also not loud enough, too ridiculous but too serious. People quickly seemed to have enough of you but you were not enough enough.
What did you want from him? Did you want friendship? With a murderer? Had you lost the plot?
Yes, probably to all of those. You did want to be friends, you didn’t want to be alone here and both you and Loki were outsiders.
“I guess, it’s not something you can force exactly. I don’t think there is a right or wrong way to be friend. I don’t ask anything of you necessarily, only that to be friends you have to consider someone to be your equal, and honestly, I’m not sure you do or will ever see me like that.”
Loki seemed thoughtful.
“You could die at any moment.”
“Ah! What?” You yelped, patting your body down.
He tutted at you again and rolled his eyes, “I just mean that compared to me, you are more susceptible to -“
“Jesus Loki.”
‘You don’t understand.” He sniffed and looked down at you.
You rolled your eyes at his dramatics.
“I understand, but humans have to deal with this shit all the time. If I’m not worried about it you shouldn’t be.”
“I’m not worried.” He automatically jumped in.
“Okay, whatever.” You breathed and rolled your eyes again; at this rate they were going to fall out.
“It’s just…it’s difficult to be friends because…”
“Oh my god I get it, I will never be equal to you because you’re a god, is that what you are trying to say?”
“Kind of. But I think in a different way to what you are imagining. There are some things in my past that make it difficult to - we are very different.”
What the hell was he talking about now?
“To be friends you don’t have to be the same, I just meant that…it makes for an unfair friendship if you think I’m like lesser than you in every single way.”
Loki took a step back and stared at you.
“I don’t think you are lesser than me.”
You scoffed,
“You literally just said how much likely I am to die because I’m so weak.”
“I wasn’t discussing your morality because I think you’re weak. It’s difficult to be friends with you because,” He started to get annoyed. “Because what if you die!” He burst.
He was breathing heavily now and you stared back at him incredulously.
“Well.” You tried to find your words “Well I…I’m pretty healthy at the moment so, I probably won’t.”
You were so confused. Convincing Loki you weren’t going to die soon wasn’t how you expected this conversation to go.
“One day you will.” Loki seemed morose.
Fuck me
“Alright, fine one day, probably yes. But - “
“Then I will be alone.”
Your heart flipped in your chest and you softened instantly. You hadn’t thought that that’s why he was upset.
You wanted to…touch him? Hold his hand?
You shook away the thoughts. There may have been some progression in your relationship but Loki would probably still throw you off the balcony if you tried a stunt like that.
“Loki…” You sighed “Every relationship or friendship is built knowing that one of you will outlive the other. It is inevitable. But it doesn’t mean you should close yourself off and never make any friendships. I believe that the pain of loosing someone is a price worth paying for the time that you spend with them. I’m not going to stand here all night and force you to be my bestie, for one thing it’s really cold and for another that’s kind of sad. I already know that you have a shady past or whatever, I saw the news when New York happened. Plus you are like a billion years old no one lives that long without doing some stupid shit. That still doesn’t have to get in the way of a friendship, otherwise no one would ever have any friends.”
You breathed. “I am going to bed now.”
Loki opened his mouth and closed it again. And then,
“I’m not…a billion years old.” Loki gave you a mirthful glare.
You snorted “Hm. Okay grandpa. Good-night.”
You headed back inside and climbed back into bed.
Friendship with Loki Odinson.
Just a Friendship?
You pushed that thought way back into the little box it sneaked out of and ignored it, far too tired to deal with things like that.
Closing your eyes and getting comfy under the covers, you wondered if Loki or sleep would arrive first.
It was sleep.
A/N what did you think of soft Loki? Also how adorable are Latte and Loki trying to be friends? They are both a lil awkward so I have fun writing them learning how to be fiends with each other.

You realised you must have fallen back asleep at some point. When you woke, you felt a lot better, the pain in your head having disappeared and your bones ached less. You shifted, and slowly sat up, stretching your arms and legs.
“Mortal.” The dreaded voice hit you like a tonne of bricks.
You looked over to the writing desk to see Loki sat looking at you.
“Better?” He asked.
You glared at him, and didn’t bother responding. You had no desire to talk to him.
Loki smirked, “Sulking little girl?”
You tried to bite your tongue you really did but he was seriously irritating you. You sat up straighter,
“Sulking? Why would I be happy seeing you after you took an attempt on my life?”
Loki had the audacity to roll his eyes.
“Are you hurt?”
“What?”
“Are you in pain? Are you bruised? Are you on deaths door?”
“ Well…no but that’s beside the point.”
“Then you cannot say I took an attempt on your life.”
“You’re literally gaslighting me!” You yelled and jumped out of the bed.
Loki looked unimpressed,
“Gaslighting?” He said carefully, copying how you said it.
“Trying to manipulate me into thinking how you acted wasn’t as bad as it was!”
“Mortal if I wanted to kill you, you would already be dead. Please sit back down you are still recovering and I would hate it if you ruined all the work I just did.”
“What work?”
“The work I did healing you.”
Erm what?
You were stunned for a second and continued to stare and blink at him. Loki looked far too pleased with himself for your lack of words.
“Thanks I guess.” You mumbled.
“You guess?” Loki looked at you incredulously.
“One good thing doesn’t make up for treating me like shit!”
Loki stood up, drawing himself to his full height and stared down at you. You took a step back instinctively, not wanting a repeat from earlier, however you held your glare and narrowed your eyes to match his.
“I am…” He began.
“A god and a future king, I know, your highness, you’ve told me. And I’m a lowly mortal etcetera etcetera but it’s not exactly an excuse to constantly act like a dick towards me.”
“I healed you, you ungrateful, wretched…”
“I know and I said thank you didn’t I? But it still doesn’t excuse your behaviour.”
You didn’t know why you were suddenly feeling so brave. Maybe it was something to do with being threatened by him already today and then nearly beaten up by a troll. Loki’s eyes flashed murderously, and for a second you thought they had flashed red.
“Interrupt me again girl…”
You held your breath for a second and waited for him to finish his sentence. There was a noise outside which distracted both yours and Loki’s attention and the next time you looked back at him his eyes were back to a steely blue. Maybe you imagined it.
Loki sighed,
“You’ve become increasingly loquacious during your trip here. Not everyone would be so lenient. I will not tell you again, try to be less spirited while you are here.”
Lenient? This is what he called lenient? Constantly insulting and threatening you? Also you noted, if you hadn’t known better you would have thought Loki’s mouth had quirked slightly.
You opened your mouth, ready to fight back again when Fandral entered the tent.
“Have I not told you to stay out of my tent?” Loki glared at him.
Fandral ignored him.
“My lady, I came to see how you were faring?”
“Better, thank you.” You beamed at him. It was nice to have someone who could hold a normal conversation with you without purposefully irritating you.
He smiled down at you.
Loki stepped in front of you blocking your view of Fandral.
“Was there anything else you needed?”
You rolled your eyes, and stepped back out from behind Loki.
“I was wondering if the lady would like to come and pick out a dress for tonight?” He aimed at you.
“No, she’s resting. Goodbye.” Loki opened the tent for him.
“She looks okay to me.” Fandral glared back at Loki.
If there was one thing you hated, it was being talked about as if you weren’t there.
You spoke up, “Actually I am feeling better, how long have we got before the feast?”
“Ah hour or so.” Fandral smiled at you.
“Maybe I should start getting ready then.”
“Good idea my lady! Come, Lady Yrsa awaits for you.”
You shot a glance at Loki, who looked for a moment as if he was going to say something but decided against it.
“Where are we going to look for my dress?” You asked, once you had followed Fandral out of the tent.
“Lady Yrsa has asked to speak to you, I believe she is going to provide you with one.”
You furrowed your brow slightly but said nothing. Loki’s warning was running through your mind, and as much as you disliked him, he was probably right in some ways. Best to keep your head down and not die.
Just a few weeks, just a few weeks.
“What was that?” Fandral asked.
Oops, you didn’t mean to speak out loud.
You cleared your throat, “Er - nothing. So what kind of thing will be happening tonight?”
“Well, there will be food of course, and probably dancing -“
“Dancing?”
Fandral looked at you, amused.
“Yes, dancing. Do you dance on Midgard my lady?”
“Not really.”
I mean you had danced in clubs and had once taken a salsa class in University with a friend for a laugh, but you doubted that was going to be helpful here.
“Ah, it is no matter. I’m sure you will pick up the dances quickly.”
“There are specific dances?” You asked, panicked.
If things weren’t worse enough now you had to learn some alien dances. You thought perhaps maybe you would prefer to take the troll on again.
“Well, yes.” Fandral looked confused. “Is there no dancing at all on Midgard?”
“We dance I guess, although for most people it’s just sort of jumping up and down and waving your hands around rather than a routine, unless you dance as a hobby and go to classes and stuff.”
Fandral looked fairly horrified at this. “Jumping up and down and waving your hands around? That is dancing on Midgard?”
“Yep.”
“Why?” He asked curiously.
“Erm-“
Much to your relief, you didn’t have to answer because you had arrived at Yrsa’s door. The lady herself stepped out.
“Ah, Lord Fandral and the mortal! Come in.”
Taking a deep breath you followed them in. You arrived in a rather spacious sitting room, with two, two-seater sofas and a large wooden table. The balcony curtains were open, letting you know it had just started raining again.
“Thank you for coming.”
You smiled weakly,
“Thank you for having me.”
Yrsa clasped her hands together, and said delighted, “How sweet!”
You tied to keep your face still and not form a scowl, but this was proving difficult.
Fandral seemed to sense you weren’t feeling entirely comfortable and stepped in,
“So, you said you had some dresses…?”
“That’s right! I asked my maids to find some dresses that could fit the mortal.” She looked down at you and smiled.
I have a name, not that anyone seems to use it, you thought.
“Girls!” Yrsa called, and three young girls came out from the door to the left.
“Please show the mortal her dresses and get her ready for the feast tonight!”
One of the girls grinned at you,
“Come in here mortal.”
You gritted your teeth and walked over to the next room.
The next half an hour or so was spent with the girls doing your hair and makeup. They seemed sweet enough, and even though you felt like an oversized doll, you let them play makeovers. The girls chatted between themselves as they did so, and you listened quietly.
“I heard you had a run in with a troll? Is that right?” The girl who looked the youngest addressed you eagerly.
You nodded. “He came into the room. Luckily Thor - I mean the princes were quick on the scene.”
“That must have been scary!” She squeaked.
“You are lucky the princes cam so quickly to your aid.” The maid with the curly brown hair spoke.
“What is it like travelling with them?” The youngest one asked excitedly.
You mentally laughed, but thought for a second. You realised you should probably not rant about how irritating Loki was, you didn’t want to get hung for treason or whatever the punishments were here.
“I’m very lucky they have let me travel with them.” You settled on.
“Which one do you think is the best looking?” The youngest asked again.
“Liv” The eldest who was yet to speak reprimanded. You suddenly recognised this maid as the one that had come in to alert Yrsa about the trolls.
“I personally think Prince Thor is better looking” Liv continued, “But Gro here thinks Loki is better looking.”
The girl with curly brown hair blushed.
“This is a silly conversation.” The eldest spoke again, as she continued to play with your hair.
“I can kind of understand why people find Prince Loki attractive, I suppose he has that whole dark and mysterious thing going on, but Prince Thor is more handsome and charming.”
Liv suddenly lowered her voice, “Although, it is said that Lady Yrsa may marry Prince Loki, Lady Audhild said it is her best chance of getting into the royal family.”
“Liv that’s enough.” The older maid said sharply.
Liv shrugged and shot the maid next to her a knowing look.
At her words your stomach clenched slightly although you weren’t sure why. Maybe you still recovering from earlier.
Interesting. You supposed the maids did not take you seriously enough as to not bother hiding their gossiping around you.
“Here mortal, we are finished!”
It was nice to see yourself wearing makeup and having your hair done again, made a change from wearing old clothes and looking like a drowned rat.
“Thank you.” You said honestly.
“Now you get to choose a dress!” Liv stated, clapping her hands together.
Gro went over to the wardrobe and opened it up.
“Feel free to pick whichever you like!”
Now this was more like it. You had always been obsessed with pretty things. There were many beautiful colours and fabrics it made it difficult to decide which dress you wanted to pick. You finally settled on a pale blue gown with dark blue ornate patterns along the trim and down the sleeves.
The girls helped you into the dress, which made you feel kind of uncomfortable. I’d be a rubbish princess you thought, there is no way I would enjoy being dressed every day. Although you thought you could get used to the outfits.
Finally, once the girls were satisfied, you were allowed to re-enter the main room.
To your surprise, Loki was sat on the sofa enjoying a cup of tea and chatting away to Yrsa, they had not seemed to notice that you had entered.
Gro cleared her throat. They looked in your direction and Yrsa stood up.
“Aw look! Well done girls, you have made look presentable for this evening.”
Cheers Yrsa, you thought and mentally rolled your eyes.
She smiled sickeningly at Loki,
“Come, let us go and join the feast.”
Loki smiled back and held out his hand for Yrsa to take.
***
You had been at the feast for an hour by now and you were wondering if you could find an excuse to leave. The best thing about the evening had been the food. Asgardian’s new how to cook clearly. Your altercation with the troll that afternoon had left you ravenous, and you had happily scoffed as much bread, meats and cheese as you could. Unfortunately, then the eating came to and end and people were dancing. You however, were stood with your back against the wall, as far away as the dancing as possible.
Dismally, the topic of you being a mortal had come up during dinner which was far from ideal, especially when Ylva, Yrsa’s annoying younger sister had joked that there was no point in giving you the good wine since you would probably die in a few years anyway. You were about to argue that if you were lucky enough to live your full lifespan you would live for a lot longer than a few years but Loki had glared at you, as if reminding of you not to speak up and you abided.
When you went to sit down to eat, Audhild, Yrsa’s mother, who hasn’t been present at lunch, had asked Thor and Loki wether you were allowed to sit at the table.
The icing on the cake however, was a thinly vailed question from Yrsa herself around whether or not you were basically some sort of pet of Loki’s and that’s why you were sharing his tent with him.
That one was pretty mortifying, you hadn’t particularly considered the implications of sleeping in Loki’s bed; what that might signal to others. Especially to others who consider humans to be a much lesser species, and one where being a sex slave wasn’t out of the question.
Overall, it had not been a great evening to a thoroughly shitty day.
You picked at the sleeves of the dress miserably and stared at the ground, wishing you could disappear through it.
A pair of black boots appeared in front of you. You continued looking down, staring at them.
“Having fun, mortal?”
Slowly, you dragged your eyes up a green and black ensemble to the face you had grow tired but used to seeing.
“Loads.”
“Would you care to dance?”
You eyed him suspiciously, having had enough of his games for today.
`’No thank you.” You turned away from him.
Loki stepped so that he was in front of your gaze again.
“Come on, why not?” His eyes gleamed.
You rolled your eyes,
“I don’t know how to dance.”
“I can teach you.”
You huffed, “I’m good.”
“You know, as a prince of Asgard, I’ve danced all my life. In fact I’m practically known for it, I didn’t win first place doing the Wyvern Whiz at Vanaheim’s inter realm contest when I was 350 for nothing.”
“I don’t want to hear about your whiz.”
Loki ignored you and continued “ I’m perfectly equipped to teach you how to dance. Or perhaps you’d rather hear some more about my dancing escapades…”
“Fine Gene Kelly, I’ll dance with you.”
Loki grinned and held out his hand,
“May I have the honour.”
You scowled and took it.
“I understand that reference you know, I met Gene Kelly once.” Loki said as he led you to the dance floor.
“Erm what?” You asked distractedly.
You couldn’t focus. His hands were a lot colder than you had expected, and they were incredibly smooth. It felt like touching marble. You panicked that your hands might feel gross and sweaty in his, and had the sudden impulse to pull them away.
“Are you even listening to my story mortal?” Loki asked, pulling you out of you musings.
You looked at him blankly and he rolled his eyes at you.
“Right, now, put your hand upon my shoulder.”
“What? No.”
“You are so irritating, I’m trying to teach you to dance. We cannot dance if you are sanding 5 feet away from me.”
You gingerly stepped closer and put your arm on his shoulder. He adjusted it slightly.
“There, that wasn’t too difficult was it. Now, relax and let me lead you.”
You tried desperately to match your movements to his, and stared, concentrating on your feet.
“You need to look up.” Loki whispered,
“Hm?” You furrowed your brow as you stepped the wrong way again.
You felt fingers under your chin pulling your head up until you were looking up at him. You tried to move your head away so you could stare at your feet again but he shook his head.
“Look at me while you are dancing, it will make it easier.”
“But then, how will I know if my feet are doing the right thing or not?”
“You need to feel the music as it moves through you.”
The only thing I feel like doing is leaving.
Loki starting to tell you another story, one which involved another creature you’d never heard of before and hoped to never meet, and Thor and his friends making fools of themselves. Soon, you had forgotten about what your feet were doing completely, focusing instead on Loki’s story, and they way his eyes crinkled when he was amused.
“May I have this dance with the lady?” A deep voice from beside you appeared.
You turned to see Fandral bowing slightly and holding his hand out to you.
Loki raised an eyebrow at him and was about to open his mouth when Yrsa appeared.
“Ah your highness.” She giggled girlishly which took you by surprise. “Shall we leave your mortal pet and have a dance ourselves?”
You inwardly rolled your eyes, and let go of Loki’s arm and hand.
Fandral smiled at you and whisked you away to the other side of the room.
“I thought you said you couldn’t dance!” Fandral said as you tired to remember where to put your hands.
Dancing with Fandral felt different. He was warmer, for one thing, you could feel a dampness on his shoulder, he also seemed to move quicker and more energetic, and you struggled to keep up.
There was slightly less talking with Fandral, and as you moved around the room you became more conscious of the other dancers. Thor was dancing with Ylva, who blushed and threw her head back as she laughed. You turned at the right moment to catch a glance at his face which seemed pleased if not confused. Volstagg had somehow found more food, and had a leg of something in one hand and a pint of ale in the other.
When you passed him, a young lady was asking him to dance and he looked so distressed about his decision to leave his food and dance or not that you laughed out loud. Fandral laughed too, confused about what was funny. This caught the attention of Loki and as you passed him, explaining to Fandral what had made you laugh, while keeping the insane pace Fandral seemed to insist upon, you thought you caught a quick look of irritation.
After a while, you needed to stop to catch your breath and quench your thirst. You left Fandral who quickly found a new, willing partner and went and stood by a table. As you drank, you noticed that you had lost sight of Loki.
It was getting late now, you had danced for longer than you had thought and the exhaustion of the day was catching up. You scanned the room one last time for Loki and then decided to head back to the tent on your own.
You made your way out of the castle and down to where the tent was currently set up. You dragged your feet along the ground, looking forward to getting back into Loki’s bed.
As you got closer you started to realise that something was wrong. You could hear noises when you had hoped to be leaving them behind. The moon was bright that night, allowing for a pool of light to illuminate the ground. That’s how you saw it, the shadows of two people fucking within, reflected from the bright light against the tent.
| Loki Laufeyson x Reader | Requested by unkown* |
Summary: After your escape from Thanos and your past you have trouble adjusting to life on Midgard but luckily there's someone in your corner.
A/N: *I'm sorry but tumblr has somehow swallowed your request. I still had it on my computer but I don't know if you were an anon or a blog so I sadly can't tag you. I still hope this fic finds you and I wish you all the best <3
Request: Absolutely no pressure, but you know I'm a sucker for anything with Loki - especially maybe an Asgardian reader, who's also going through a bit of a depression and recovering from emotional abuse? If that's too heavy/complicated, I totally understand, but it'd be lovely to have Loki as my therapist. Fluff has definitely helped in the past.
TW! mention of abuse, mention of depression (please let me know if I need to add anything)

Things were difficult at the moment. Asgard was gone and so were many other people, you were free but it didn't feel like it.
You weren't sure what to feel, what to do. Nothing was how it was but you weren't sure why a part of you still clung to that old life, that life you wanted to escape so badly.
New Asgard was different. None of the glamour and luxury, nothing more than a small village somewhere in Norway.
Thor, Loki and Valkyrie were doing their best to make the best out of the new situation but it was a difficult task.
It took some time getting used to living elsewhere for everyone but you couldn't care less about getting a new start or recovering from the traumatic events that happened.
You just wanted everything to go away and at the same time clung desperately to the few happy memories you had of Asgard. People noticed of course but they didn't know what to do so everyone just gave you space and left you alone. Everyone but Loki.
He would check in with you as often as he could, he still had to coordinate most of New Asgard and all the troubles that came with it. He would usually show up at the end of the day with some take-out and would tell you about his day, listening to yours if you wanted to tell him and always offering his support and help if you needed it.
At first you weren't sure why he was doing it, why he wanted to help but over time you began to trust him more and more, forming a bond that was based on trust, honesty and care.
His presence would make you feel at ease and some days you would manage to tell him bits and pieces of what was going on. He would listen very carefully and try to help you as best as he could.
Sometimes after you had cried and clung to his shoulders while he had held you, he would carry you to bed and would make sure you had beautiful dreams that night, staying with you until you fell asleep. In the mornings there would be breakfast waiting for you with a small note attached.
Those small gestures meant a lot to you and after some time you would get better. Sure there were still days where everything seemed hopeless and you wanted nothing more then to cry and just stay in bed.
But Loki was there, every step of the way and he would make sure you knew that as well.

Summary: After Ragnarok everyone tries to deal with the horrible events that happened. Some better and some worse.
A/N: I'm sorry I haven't written much the last few weeks. I've been feeling drained and empty and tried to take some time for myself. This is a draft I found from November and I have a couple more but I'm currently not really able to write all of your requests. I might post some short fics or songfics I wrote to help me cope if you're interested in that. Things have been complicated and I'm trying to get back on track. Good thing though, if anyone is interested, I finally shifted!
TW! Mentioned abuse, trauma, breakdowns
