Hey, I'm sorry for the ask but I'm really struggling and could use some friendly advice/help.....I think I might be demisexual but I feel like I might be aromantic.... but can you explain maybe what aromantic actually is??? I've heard the term but still not sure. I am very confused and could use some help and discussion because I feel very very alone right now. Sorry if it's a stupid question and if i worded it badly <<33
Hi, there, I am so sorry to hear that you are struggling. There is no such thing as a stupid question and your wording was perfect, we will try and give you friendly advice and help to the best of our abilities.
Okay, so aromantic is generally described as ‘not experiencing romantic attraction’, which mean that you don’t experience the desire to be in a romantic relationship with anyone. This experience varies form person to person, but usually aromantic people don’t experience romantic attraction, thus don’t find the prospect of having non-sexual intimacy with another person (think: kissing, cuddling, holding hands, etc.) particularly appealing, not in practice, nor in theory, or have the desire to experience these things with specific people or anyone at all. It generally can be understood as not having romantic feeling towards anyone regardless of gender and thus not desiring a relationship of a romantic nature. This can or cannot also include sex. Some aromantics do feel sexual attraction, some do not and prefer platonic relationships, and a wide varieties of personal experiences and preferences lies in-between.
So if you only feel sexually attracted to people you have previously formed a very close emotional bond to, this would be considered demisexuality, and it can certainly occur concurrent with aromantism.
I hope this was at least partially helpful, please feel free to direct message or inbox us with more questions or simply if you need someone to talk to. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you feel like you need someone to chat with, we will be here to listen and help as best we can.
