So I’ve not seen anything about this, so I thought I’d make a post about it!

July is a good month, it’s summer, many countries have special holidays in July but there’s something else.

July is Disability pride month! This is the disability pride flag

I only recently learned about this month, and I think it’s very important to share it

We share pride month, and Christmas, and Remembrance Day, Valentine’s Day, Halloween and Easter

But what about disability pride month?

“The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed on July 26, 1990, to prohibit discrimination against people with disabilities. Following this legislation, Boston held the first Disability Pride Day event in July 1990 and Disability Pride Month was born.”

No, I’m not American, but I think everyone should know! Bring more awareness to disabilities and let those with them know we stand by, support and love them

Regardless of what disability you have, you are important, valid, so special and you are very much loved, especially on this blog because everyone here is family!

So I hope a few of you will join me in letting those with disabilities know we see them, we love them and we will stand by them however we can

You are important

You are loved

You are valid

You are human

You are special

And you are not alone 💜

This is the speech that has literally been my only comfort thing rn

It’s from TVD, I love Klaus as it is, but here he is so caring and kind and tbh just sitting with some headphones on and playing this it helps it’s a distraction and sort of like a motivation at the same time

But like at the same time just imagine any of your comfort characters saying this to you when you feel down or need some help or comfort

It just hits different, ya know?

So today at work my colleagues were having a conversation with each other and someone else about smth that brought back some harsh memories that I try not to think about. I don’t blame them, they’ve got no idea I don’t tell people about this time, only a handful of people know and that’s those that were there and another friend who helped me through it all

In the process they woke up some feelings that I’d been shoving down for a while and my mental health has been playing up already

What doesn’t help is I told my friend about it who knows everything that went on during this time, and all she had to say was “just don’t think about it”

And idk it just made me feel even worse, I bend over backwards to help her, do anything to help her, I was ready to walk 2 hrs to hers because she needed someone in the middle of the night

And all she had to say is “just don’t think about it” and left it at that

Now I have this flurry of emotions swirling around me and I’m exhausted, I want to sleep, it’s 8:45pm and I don’t usually go to bed at this time. But at the same time I can’t sleep, because I know full well what amma see when I go to sleep

Now I feel sorta lost and I’m not sure what to do or how to process any of these emotions :(

I can feel myself slowly slipping back into my old mental health

And I hate it

Because I was doing so well

I was improving so much with eating, and sleeping, talking to people and putting myself out there. I was gaining so much more confidence and happiness in myself

And I’ve just started a new job which I absolutely love

But I can feel the darkness of my mental health coming rushing right back

And I don’t know why, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it 💔

Please read: advice for living on your own

So, as many of you are aware, I’m living on my own now. And I’d like to give you all some advice based on my situation.

I walked out of my house nearly two weeks ago and I’ve been on my own since (with support from friends and college.) I have no parents now, I disowned them because of what they did to me.

FIRSTLY, if you don’t think anyone is supporting you, message me!! I’ll support you and help you every step of the way!

DONT be hasty to move out, make sure you have a safe place to go to. Don’t just walk out of your house without a place arranged, even if you’re not happy there as horrible as it sounds you’ll need to stay there until you can safely move out.

I arranged with a friend to move out. (For those of you in the UK you can also go to the YMCA which is where I am)

Also save a bit of money first for food, that’s also very important I saved up three weeks of college bursary which was only £10 a week, but it meant I could get food

If you’re in an abusive household, please, please, research your local orginisations, every town or city should have one and not just in the UK, most other countries do as well

For those in an abusive household once you’re out, never look back, it’s for the best trust me. Never ever go back into that household unless it’s an absolute choice between there and the streets, it’s very hard to get off the streets once you’re on them.

Living on your own is weird and hard at first, but after a few days you get the hang of it, though you will miss people you liked living with(I miss my brothers).

If you’re going into shared housing ALWAYS hide anything valuable like money etc before letting others into your room and never leave others in your room unattended.

Food is always your priority, always make sure you have food and bottled water in your place before anything else, trust me this will help. And always make sure your phone has a bit of credit for emergencies, if you don’t have money for food or anything DONT BE ASHAMED TO GO TO FOOD BANKS OR BUY OWN BRANDS !! THERES NO SHAME IN IT!

Also make lists on what you need, trust me it helps, add up anything you need to pay as well like water, rent etc.

I’m not sure what sort of benifits other countries do I’m afraid but you should really look into it and apply for any you can before moving out

FOR THOSE OF YOU IN ENGLAND!!

You can apply for universal credit(depending on age), and you might be able to get an advance payment (have to apply before June 6th I believe) but the full amount for an advance is £342 or around that, and you’ll get it within a few days, so you won’t need to worry about that.

If you’re applying for UC, call up within a day if you can’t apply for an advance and they’ll speed up the process is you explain you’re on your own with no money
