Prompt: Long haired Loki and Loneliness
WIP Wednesday
Trying to wrap up this ongoing WIP so that I can start on my Lokius bingo card, because I'm super excited about that. If only exposition were as easy to write as dialogue...
“Why, when you of all people have seen the worst every variant of me has ever had to offer. When for all you knew I had, as you said, left you all behind. For a throne, for glory. Why would you put your faith in such a flawed god, knowing all of that?” Mobius leans into him briefly, shoulders touching. “You really think you’re just another minor deity to me? And here I thought you were smart.” “I am smart,” Loki grumbles, but there’s no real heat in it. “I know you are,” Mobius says seriously. “But this has nothing to do with you being Odin’s son, or the King of Time, or even the smartest guy in the room. I didn’t do this because we needed a new Timekeeper, a new religion, here in the TVA.” “No?” “No. We’ve had enough of that.” “Why, then?” “Because my friend deserved to be remembered for sacrificing everything to save the rest of us. And if Memory was all we had left, in the end? You can bet I was gonna make sure it stuck. For all time. That’s kind of a motto around here, in case you somehow missed that.” The tear which had been about to roll down Loki’s nose thankfully becomes masked under a brief, somewhat congested snort of laughter. “It is a well-worn adage in this place, I grant you.” “An oldie but goodie,” Mobius agrees cheerfully, stretching his legs out in front of him and relaxing into a casual slouch. “It’s classic. Like jet skis.”

Summary:
Don had to remind himself, as he’d done a lot over the past four weeks, that he didn’t care what Loki's reasons were, or what he was up to. He shouldn’t spare any of his thoughts or energy on him after what the god had said, but Don’s heart was taking its time learning that lesson. If they didn’t want the president to disappear one day, then maybe this country shouldn’t have voted such a temperamental god into the position, he thought. Except no one knew the truth about Loki but Don. And look where that got me.
The final two chapters are now up! The second chapter is a big one so pace yourself if you need to.💚💙 I hope you enjoy it!
