LoKtober Day 15: Ouroboros

Kain heaved a heavy sigh and left the Chronoplast for what would be the last time. The war against fate had been hard fought and harder won, but not without bitter losses.

No one noticed when he landed as a swarm of bats at the pinnacle of Avernus Cathedral, nor as he strode through the cold marble rooms his younger self would soon discover. And here was the empty pedestal, and here was his sword, and here was when he would have to say goodbye to Raziel for the last time.

He laid the Reaver down with the reverence the holy icon deserved.

“I will find you soon,” he promised, and wished with all his soul that he did not mean the younger version of himself.

Kain paused at the door, and broke a promise to himself not to look back. “I love you,” he whispered, and dissipated into mist.
