He found me here then dm'd me when I posted my Instagram about 2 years ago. We only had a few conversations back then, but he posted photos from some dope places I visited when I lived in Colorado so I'd lowkey insta-stalk him sometimes. Fast forward to now, I've been considering moving to the city that he lives in, so I messaged him to ask a few questions about it. (I’m currently studying software engineering and have been looking into tech hubs where the cost of living is manageable.) Those chats turned into long video calls which turned into a relationship. We haven’t met up yet because of covid, but he’s the kindest human ever. I have never had anyone offer up affirmation so freely, be as understanding or speak to me as softly. We likely won’t be able to see each other for a while, as I am back home while I study, but I'm wondering why I ever accepted being treated any other way. He treats me like both a fragile flower and a powerful goddess. That combination is a real joy.  (Also, his positivity level is Bob Ross, and y'all know I love Bob Ross. I would marry Bob Ross.)

A friend of mine has been trying to get me to sign up for Match.com. I have been resistant, so she told me to create a pros and cons list and we could evaluate. If I were the kind of person who could be 100% honest with my friends this is what the list would look like:

Cons:

I get murdered/raped/kidnapped

No one wants to go on a date with me

No one wants to go on a second date with me

Only weirdos want to date me

I pick the wrong person and he’s awful and none of my friends tell me the truth

He meets one of my friends and wants to date her instead

My whole life gets changed if I do meet someone who sticks around

I inevitably have less time for my friends who, right now, are the most important people in my life

I meet someone, fall in love, and he breaks my heart

I try to do this again. and fail. again.

Pros:

I meet someone awesome and fall in love and maybe get married and maybe have babies.

So... obviously the cons have it. I hate the idea of online dating. I hate dating in general. I just think of that saying that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results and well... for 28 years no one has loved me or wanted to be with me or even seen me. I don’t see how this time will be any different. Except, maybe, my friend will feel like she has some stake in the outcome and I’d hate to let her down.

I personally think it is pretty great when I talk to someone extensively one day and then not at all the next day because it is extremely helpful for me when trying to figure out whether or not they are interested in me in a pants way.

lol I think i scared off that girl I was going to date when I said I was a big fan of Japanese movie/anime

but yeah, whatever -- if I'm not honest with what I like, I won't find who I'm meant to be with, or if not fated, at least who i'm most compatible with.
