Crowley was still as stone beside him. His ears were cherry-red. “So...if we pretend we’re in a relationship, we’ll be safe.” “I believe so.” “And that would, that would involve, what?” he spoke hesitantly, softly. “Holding your hand, telling you that you mean a lot to me, kissing you for them to see?” Two great hands were constricting Aziraphale’s lungs. He fought back an undignified wheeze. “Yes, I think so.” “I can do that,” he croaked. ~ In a panic, Aziraphale tells the archangels he survived hellfire due to his soul mixing with Crowley's because they're in a romantic and sexual relationship. They want him to prove it. Cue a fake relationship.

Oh oh oh, my fake relationship beloved of mother! This was perfect in the angsty department and the fluffy department, and I love love love it!
Ending quote:
And if, after several millennia when Heaven and Hell eventually faced humanity as Crowley predicted they would after Adam stopped the apocalypse, they discovered that Aziraphale’s lie had been correct, and hellfire and holy water had no effect on them because they truly did have pieces of each other’s souls, they couldn’t be blamed for stopping to laugh hysterically during an important battle. But that was okay; the humans had it under control, as they always did, and it wasn’t like Aziraphale and Crowley were ever really competent at their jobs, anyway.
