“Oh, shit.” He quickly backed out of the room, closing the door a little harder than necessary.
“Ya gotta lock the door, man!”

It’s been over a week since...the argument. She’d been afraid Mr. Han would fire her on the spot, but thankfully (?) he hadn’t. Jaehee has been waiting for Saeyoung in the chatroom every night, calling him three times a day, texting him over and over...but there’s been no response. And it’s been torture, being without him. That morning had been stressful enough, but not having him there to console her made it so much worse.
She’d watched him drive away and as his car turned the corner, she can remember thinking, I should have gone with him. Because he was right. He was...completely right. He’s the most important thing to her. Before they’d started...Well, could she call it dating if he called her his girlfriend and then proceeded to ignore her? But before that, the only thing that could make her smile was Zen’s DVDs. Now, though, even they aren’t enough to distract her from how she’s feeling.
She’s working late, again. And, not for the first time, she’s looking at Saeyoung’s profile photo in the RFA Messenger App and her vision is blurred as tears well up in her eyes. She hates this. She hates being apart from him. And she hates how Mr. Han has only been more cold and strict with her since she last saw him. She feels hopeless. It’s the same feeling she’d had when she got out of college. Those first few unemployed weeks were miserable. She’d felt useless and pointless and she’d been sure she’d lose everything.
Now she has. Saeyoung is...everything to her. And he won’t answer.
She reaches up to wipe her eyes but she touches the lens of her glasses, smudging them badly. Which just makes it worse. She doesn’t even need glasses. It’s just another one of Mr. Han’s rules. And she hates it. She hates being treated like an object. Like a possession. He’d made it clear that morning and every day since that he thought of her as one. That her time is something he can buy and do with as he pleases. That what she thinks doesn’t matter.
It’s nothing she didn’t know before--she’d known she was just a helper. Just an assistant. But it hurts more now, after hearing Saeyoung get so upset on her behalf. She’s never liked being...unimportant; but it had been tolerable. Mostly because she hadn’t really thought she had another option. She didn’t think it was possible for her to matter. Ever since her mother died, she’d thought of herself as a burden. And she’d felt like she had to make up for just existing. Like her happiness was a fair trade for taking up space.
But Saeyoung doesn’t see her that way. He’d stood up for her. She matters to him. Or, she did. She’s not sure how he feels about her now. Maybe he’s angry that I didn’t leave with him. Maybe he’s upset with me for being so weak. Maybe he...changed his mind about me.
With one hand, she pulls the glasses off her face and nearly throws them at the surface of her desk. And as they bounce across the papers spread out in front of her, she closes her eyes, pulling up the collar of her shirt to wipe her face.
Looking up at her cream colored ceiling, she thinks, God, if you’re listening...tell him I’m sorry.
.
But there’s no answer. There never is.
Her eyes close again and she pushes herself backward, her office chair rolling slowly across the rug she’d put down for it.
No; God wouldn’t be able to help her talk to Saeyoung. Only she could do that. She picks up her phone and searches for car services, wiping away a stray tear. She’s trying to calm down, but she’s not sure she’ll be able to until she sees him.
.
.
And just like the last time he’d shut her out, she stands outside his gate and texts him:
‘I’m outside your house. Please let me in.’
She could walk in before, but she doesn’t know if he’s changed his security protocols. And even if he hasn’t, she doesn’t want to just barge in. If he really is upset with her, she doesn’t want to make him see her.
She feels weak, though. Approaching his home had only made the tears come faster. She drops her bag on the ground beside her and sits on it, head in hand. Please. I need you.
littleviolethearts asked:
[TXT]: Luciel, my assistant isn't at work and I suspect it's because of you. Please return her to me.
lololits707
[TXT]: lol [TXT]: Come get her if you want her so bad lolol [TXT]: Okay, but she left like a few minutes ago. Relax. [TXT]: She’ll be there soon
Because she actually got him to drive her to work. The outside world! The bright light in his eyes that had gotten so used to the dim light of his home. Okay, but he’s kind of being a drama queen even if it’s all just occurring in his head. They’re pulling up now and there’s a very clearly frustrated Jumin outside. Whoops.
Of course Luciel would drive his flashiest car to drop her off. Jumin suppresses a sigh and approaches the vehicle as Assistant Kang climbs out. He ignores her, though, walking around to the driver’s side and leaning over to look Luciel in the eyes.
“I don’t care what either of you do in your free time,” he says quietly. “But this is starting to affect my business.” It’s been some time now, and Assistant Kang’s work has been slipping. Over the last month, she’s turned in three reports with typos and one of them was a day late.
Standing on the other side of the car, she’s well within earshot as he says, “If this kind of disruption continues, I may be forced to find a new chief assistant.”
it’s a chore, finding someone new, but if she really thinks her relationship with Luciel is more important than her work, she’ll become completely useless to him in no time. He’s sure they both know by now that he doesn’t make empty threats. Something needs to change.

【 ❀ ❀ ❀ 】 —— Brows furrow at his response and she crosses her arms loosely over her chest, blue eyes shining with worry searching his face.
❝ Why? ❞ she finally asks, her frown deepening as she crosses her arms more tightly.
"WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT FILL UP A “SUPER BIG GULP” CUP WITH 5 HOUR ENERGY AND CHUG THE WHOLE THING. MY HEART HAS EITHER STOPPED COMPLETELY OR IS BEATING SO FAST THAT I CAN’T FEEL MY OWN PULSE." (lololits707)
Jaehee almost snorts into her coffee. It’s not the most absurd thing Saeyoung has texted her, but it’s...up there.
Jaehee Kang: Coming.
It only takes her a few minutes to gather everything she needs, stuffing her poor briefcase almost to the breaking point with her laptop and paperwork and packing a small bag with a change of clothes and a toothbrush.
She calls for a taxi and as she’s waiting, she makes another call...
--
Twenty minutes later she’s outside Saeyoung’s home with two bags and her briefcase. She’s learned the security measures by now and has an Arabic dictionary and phrasebook on her phone. She’s been studying it, too, but she’s not proficient enough yet to not need help getting past the gate.
It only takes her two tries to get in, walking through security with the ease of someone who’s done it dozens of times now. And she makes her way to the coffee table, placing her briefcase and clothes on the floor beside it before pulling takeout boxes from a large paper bag and arranging them to face the couch.
“Seven?” she calls expectantly. He’s not in the living room.

“You can’t get too close to me.”
“It’s too dangerous.”
“I’ll only hurt you.”
Well, Jaehee certainly feels hurt. It’s why she’s here. She’d come straight from work and she’s still in her suit. Just like the first time.
Stepping up to the gate, she knows there’s no point in knocking or yelling. Seven won’t hear it. So instead she pulls out her phone and taps out a text message to him. I’m outside your house. Please let me in.
She watches as her words disappear from the text field and reappears in the message history. And then it occurs to her to say, I’m not leaving.
She means it. She’s already sent the driver away and she’s prepared to sit outside his gate all night if she has to. She’d prefer to just come inside, but she’s willing to do whatever it takes to convince him that she’s serious.
Seven had finished the cat robot project weeks ago, but Jaehee hadn’t wanted to stop seeing him. She kept visiting, telling Mr. Han it was for followup research on the prototypes. Things like bug fixes and stress testing. That had been suspicious enough, but now that the project has officially changed hands--sent off to manufacturing--there’s no business reason to hide behind. She just wants to see Seven.
Mr. Han doesn’t know she’s here. He’d had a driver waiting for her after work to take her home, but he doesn’t know that she’d asked to be taken here instead. He’s always insisted that he doesn’t care about her personal life (and that he doesn’t really care about her), but the glances he’s been giving her recently any time Seven or the cat robot project comes up are too obvious to miss. They haven’t talked about it in the chat, but Mr. Han has commented a few times on Jaehee’s growing understanding of Seven’s humor; her willingness to engage playfully with him; her defending him when Mr. Han expresses disappointment in the speed at which Seven works. She just hopes the driver keeps his promise not to mention her trip to anyone.
Eyes still on her phone, she takes another step forward, setting her briefcase down next to her feet. Seven... Please let me in.
【 ❀ ❀ ❀ 】 —— ❝ Um... can I ask you something? ❞ peering up at Seven from her spot on the couch, she runs her teeth nervously over her inner bottom lip, trying to work up her nerve and get it over with.
Finally, with a twist of her lips, she asks quietly, ❝ Are couples... supposed to do more than kiss? ❞ cheeks flush at what she is sure sounds like a ridiculous question. Sometimes, she really hates how sheltered and naive she is.
