What is the one thing about motherhood that surprised you and made you realize you enjoyed being a mom?
I’ve been thinking about this question since I saw the ask and I still can’t answer because it’s not just one thing.
I enjoy pretty much all the aspects of it, some more than others. And the parts I don’t enjoy much, I don’t mind because the “good” parts outshine the dull or less good parts by soooooo much. Which is something - I admit - I was a bit afraid of before actually having my baby.
The bit that surprises me maybe is how it makes me feel when I see resemblance between us. In a look or in the things that she’ll say. I feel a surge of joy and pride, even though I don’t necessarily want her to resemble me too much. 😂 And yet it’s involuntary, it’s like my whole body goes “Look, I made that!” It’s weird.
But mostly I enjoy a lot of things… taking care of her, teaching her things, doing things with her, just watching her become the little person that she is. It’s fun. And she’s teaching me a lot too. I’ve learned to be more patient, to let go of certain things. I feel like I’ve become a better person because of her. Or I want to be a better person. Maybe I cared a little too little about myself before, and now I’ve learned how to care more. I was very overweight and never did sports and wasn’t overly social. And because of her, for her, I’m more social, I’ve had gastric bypass surgery and lost a ton of weight already, I am being way more active, doing more sports, eating way more healthily, taking much better care of myself because I don’t have to do it only for myself anymore. But also for her. I have this responsibility, especially as a single parent.
I feel like I’ve digressed a lot. 🤣 Mainly I can tell you that I enjoy being a Mom a lot. For the big things and the little things.
