I’ve walked past this location several times in a quiet corner of the City and not noticed the stumps of pillars surrounding a patch of grass. On closer inspection there’s a large plaque that tells an interesting story about the church that used to stand there. Like many buildings in the Square Mile the original medieval building was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666. Was rebuilt by Wren only to be fire bombed during the Blitz. However the church got another life after the War as it was transported stone by stone and rebuild at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri! The last photo here is how it looks now in its ‘new’ home across the Atlantic. Another interesting story about the church is that every two years, the Robinett Family Association gathers at Westminster College to commemorate the September 29, 1653 marriage at this church, St. Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury between Allen Robinett and Margaret Symm. Today, the Robinett Family includes more than 400 members in the United States, including former Vice President Joe Biden! #londonoddities #aldermanbury (at St Mary Aldermanbury) https://www.instagram.com/p/B74WPL8HVoStzyVzsfSv17MscFJzDs5mn8TeUM0/?igshid=1akl8hh9wa95v
