It’s wildflower time in Texas!  

Many years ago, the wife of US President Johnson loved to see the wildflowers in her native state of Texas; so the state planted them all along the interstate between Dallas and Houston, a route often traveled by “Lady Bird”.     They then discovered that the public loved seeing them, as well.    Plus, by allowing the flowers to thrive, the state saved the expense of one or two mowings of the grass along the roads each year.   Now, they’re planted along many of the highways in Texas so they’re complimented each spring by the beautiful wildflowers. 

These bluebonnets (the state flower of Texas) and Crimson Clover are near a roadside park outside of Lone Oak, Texas.

We took great care not to trample on any of the flowers as we walked among them taking these photos.
