Seeing the first bluebonnets of the season today so I’m posting this one from a couple years ago while I wait for the fields to become more photogenic
Texas Bluebonnet (Lupinus texensis) Spring 2025
I’ve said this before, but bluebonnets are my favorite flower. They are Texas’ state flower and only bloom one time out of the year, from March to May.
They smell like sweet pollen and have an interesting pedal folding mechanism. Video of that below :)

The velvet-like petals, contrasting white banners, and subtle pinkish markings tucked between the blooms. What looks like a simple blue flower from across a field turns into a collection of colors, textures, and patterns.
Photographing them up close made me appreciate them in a completely different way.
