Butch, being the tactful and articulate person he is, gets tongue tied around Lone, unless he’s around his friends then he just stumbles over his words and insults a lot a few times. Sometimes his insults will just be messed up to the point where it sounds a tiny bit like flirting. He just attributes this as he has too much on his mind (which would be Lone).

As a teenager that never learned how to express his feeling correctly, his crush for the Lone Wanderer grew but he still masked it with hatred and annoyance. When he was bothering Amata and many other times he bothered either of them, he was hoping for the Lone Wanderer to step in so they would have contact with him, even if it meant a fight. Though, whenever he’s not around his friends he’s a lot kinder to Lone but not too much to raise suspicion.

He learns Lone’s birthday and secretly gives them gifts on their birthday and Christmas as well. Butch never gives it to them directly, as he just leaves it at their door with no sender name. He always makes sure the box is nicely wrapped, though, for him, its still a mess.

Sometimes Butch would flirt with other people when he knows Lone is around to try to make them jealous. He never really knows if it works on Lone or not, as they don’t seem to notice, which upsets him and makes him flirt more to get their attention. If that still doesn’t work he just stops flirting with the person and just leaves frustrated.

One time, the cafeteria was practically full, and there was only one seat by Lone. Butch, on the inside, was ecstatic that he could sit by them. He took his seat by them and acted all buddy-buddy to Lone. It came off as a bit too obnoxious around everybody, so some people left. Doing this caused a spot to be free around the other Tunnel Snakes. They started calling over to him and, reluctantly, he left and continued eating with his friends.
