I don't believe in frettin' and grievin'
Why mess around with strife
I never was cut out to step and strut out
Give me the simple life
FINALLY getting around to posting this here
I got really into fallout a couple of months back (Fallout2/Fallout:NV/Fallout TV show) which lead to me wanting to put my OC in this setting, I really love the concept of Fallout 4, having a character that was actually alive before the great war and is brought to the current timeline
I've been thinking about her backstory a lot, like how she would navigate the wastes/cope with everything she knew and loved is long dead and never coming back cause as much as Fallout can be silly at times I find myself more interested in the horror aspects of the world setting.
Before the Great War, Margaret was in a loveless marriage with a military man who she only really married cause her mother, on her deathbed, told her to marry him thinking he would be able to provide and protect her.
So she marries him does but that meant she had to end up moving away from her family and friends to a place she doesn't really care for, the only thing she ever looks forward to is when her family comes to visit for the Holidays (I'm keeping her two brothers).
Margaret doesn't like any of her neighbors, they all seem fake and have meaningless conversations, she also always felt that they looked at her with judgment anyways, so didn't seen the point of even trying.
What keeps her sane is maintaining a beautiful home, cooking, cleaning and shopping, cause it meant she got to go outside and buy things to help up keep her looks. Margaret really is what you would call the stereotypical 60's house wife aside from seemingly never smiling or coming off as "nice" to her neighbors, all of this is just cope to distract from an unhappy marriage, she fills the void playing out the role shes expected to play.
October 10, 2077:
The day when it all happened, she doesn't have a child but they do have a baby room cause her husband wants one, they've been trying even though the Doctor told Margaret she has fertility issues due to something being "wrong" with her, she sees the room as him just mocking her in away, her husband is actually home with her that day cause he was going to speak at the veterans hall (I like the fandom theory…. or just canon at this point that the man you pick was the vet that shot the Canadian once it was annexed and wave at the camera).
They had a small argument over the Baby's room which lead to her calling her Brother just to talk and clam down, looking for some reassurance and understanding last, he loves her family, what little she has left of it, with all her heart so hearing them would be enough, he tells him about how unhappy she is and how she hates the neighborhood but, her brother tells her she has a good life and husband to stay with him, but if she was really unhappy the best she could do is at lest stay with him til the war blows over and that they'll be over for Thanksgiving and they can have a more proper conversation face to face.
(Margaret does keep up with the News, she enjoys reading the papers but never bought into the fear mongering over the war, her husband did sign them both up for the Vaults but thought waste of money)
I feel like her husband tries to soften things after what happened but Margaret is upset and just tries to get lunch started (They do have the Cogsworth robot but she HATES that thing, does not want it in her house) and while shes doing that the TV is on and...well....it happened...
Margaret would try to call her family but her husband pulls her away from the phone to get to the Vaults close by (she would try to call them but the phone is dead, then try to grab family photos, belongings but there wasn't anytime)
I feel like it would have been MUCH more chaotic and people trying to push through to get to the vaults, which results and people being gunned down trying to get in that weren't on the list) before they go into the vault her husband tells her that he loves her but even at the end of the world she couldn't even bring herself to say "I love you" back.
And its nothing but crashing out after that, she just witness the end of the world and shes away from her family and friends back in her home, not knowing if they're safe or if they're alive, is breaking down sobbing that she'll never seen them again and that shes stuck in a box in the ground, its just horrible, they had to drug her to calm her down and put her into the chamber.
sorry for the huge info dump I've thought about this A LOT, didn't mean to give so much of a play-by-play but I wanted to paint the scene in my mind.
its just nothing but crash out with her for like a good first part of the story cause shes gonna have another one when she goes back home and sees everything gone.....and that shes been asleep for 200 years
other facts:
She gets deemed "The prettiest women in the wastes" cause of how she dresses and carries herself, no one knows how she manages to find the make up and keep it so perfect, skill issue I guess.
Margaret is still coping HARD like she did before the war with trying to maintain being a housewife/homemaker, she loots bombed out Malls and dress shops to collect designer handbags and shoes.
The pearls she wears are her Mother's they seemed to have lasted through the bomb and brags about it when its pointed out and tells people its cause they're real.
her weapons of choice would be like, frying pan, rolling pin, machine gun, hunter knife, sniper gun
