Have you met Dare Wright's angsty little doll Edith and her friend Little Bear? Wright was a photographer and model, and she created a series of books known as The Lonely Doll series. She illustrated all the books with photographs of her childhood doll and two stuffed teddy bears in great, detailed scenes, often with disturbing images. Edith is often spanked in the books, and in this case she gets tied up. Many of the less creepy stories have been brought back into print, but not this one. Construction! Her face piece was first needle felted to get the basic shape of the nose, cheeks and eyes. Then I stretched hand-dyed wool felt over it and continued to needle felt it down, giving more definition to her facial features. 1. Is there a special person in your life right now?I mean, there’s lots of special people! All of my friends are special! 5. Is there anyone you miss right now?There is. 12. What is your favorite compliment?Hrm. Probably just that you like being around me, or talking to me. I’m always terrified that I’m a bother, that I’m a pest. That I’m being kept around because it’s convenient. Which is really funny, since I get so mad at certain people for thinking they’re a bother. I dunno. I think that’s WHY I get so mad/isist so much that my friends aren’t a bother ever. Because I absolutely love each and every one of them, even if I can’t stand some of them sometimes.
