Through different eyes
Her partner was dead. Killed by an old trap placed there a hundred years or less ago. Regina had grabbed what she could of the supplies that they had found and took off. The sound of the trigger going off she was sure could be heard miles away by the creatures that put it there. Regina ran a different way than right back to the small hidden settlement of humans that she had come from until she knew it was safe.
It was dark. The moon was covered by thick clouds and the air was heavy and moist. Fog was slowly starting to form which would give her some cover as she made the long truck back to the settlement. Regina never stopped moving, even to listen if she was being followed. Slowing down would only bring death...but that choice changed the moment her foot hit an old trap. The metal ring with jagged points on the inside snapped closed around her ankle and she fell face first onto the wet ground. Regina let out a pain cry and then she was sitting up fast and working at the ring.
"Oh god no...no no no no. God..not this...not this," she said to herself, words full of panic. Regina pulled at the release as hard as she could, used a thin tool that she had, and even tried to bend it with another tool. Nothing work. The sharp points were buried into her ankle.
